A recent story from KSNV News 3, Las Vegas highlights an important reminder about online safety, especially for young people navigating social media and dating apps.

Following an alleged sexual assault involving an underage victim who police say met a suspect through a dating app, SafeNest CEO Liz Ortenburger spoke about the growing risks young people face online and the importance of taking precautions when meeting someone for the first time.

"R**e and sexual assault are much more common under 18 than they are over 18," Ortenburger shared, emphasizing that sexual violence among youth is more prevalent than many realize.

When meeting someone new, consider meeting in a public place, avoiding sharing personal information such as your home address, and taking time to get to know someone before meeting privately.

If you or someone you know needs help, SafeNest is here for you. Please call our 24/7 Confidential Hotline at 702-646-4981 or visit safenest.org.

SafeNest is proud to introduce Becky Bird, a member of Nevada’s first VOICES Cohort.💜

Becky is a Registered Nurse currently completing the clinical hours required to become SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) certified, and also serves as a Premium Concierge for the Las Vegas Raiders.

After receiving Temporary Protective Order (TPO) assistance through SafeNest in 2024, Becky felt called to give back to the organization that supported her. Today, she volunteers as a Court Advocate, helping guide survivors through the legal process with empathy, compassion, and understanding shaped by her own lived experience.

Becky believes healing is not the end of the story—it’s the beginning of a new one.

The inaugural SafeNest VOICES cohort is a groundbreaking program made up of survivors and a former abusive partner using their lived experiences to help end domestic and sexual violence in Clark County and beyond.

VOICES is affiliated with Alliance for HOPE International and supports the work of One Safe Place, Nevada’s first affiliated Family Justice Center campus opening in 2026.

Today, 51 campers packed their bags and headed off to Camp HOPE! 💜✨

For the next week, these incredible children ages 7–17 will experience adventure, friendship, confidence-building, and moments that remind them they are so much more than what they’ve been through.

One of the most powerful parts? 96% of this year’s campers are returning campers—a reflection of the impact Camp HOPE America continues to have on children impacted by domestic violence and the connections they build year after year.

Hear from one Camp HOPE parent on why she chooses to send her children to camp. 💜

Thank you to every single person who helped make this life-changing experience possible.

This week, Liz Ortenburger, SafeNest CEO, traveled to Washington, D.C. with Alliance for HOPE International for 2026 Capitol Hill Days, joining Family Justice Center leaders and advocates from across the country to elevate conversations around survivor support and community safety.

During the visit, Family Justice Center leaders met with lawmakers and staff on Capitol Hill to advocate for policies that strengthen support for survivors and improve community safety nationwide. From sharing survivor-centered solutions to discussing the urgent need for victim services funding, every conversation mattered.

Pictured here with Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and alongside the incredible Alliance for HOPE team, we’re proud to continue ensuring the voices and needs of survivors are represented at every level. Thank you to everyone working to create stronger systems of support and safer communities for survivors and families. 💜

A recent article from the Las Vegas Review-Journal highlighted the important work of Trauma Intervention Program volunteers, who provide emotional support to community members following traumatic incidents across Southern Nevada.

The story also highlighted the E-TIP program, which teaches emotional first aid to first responders, victim advocates, and community organizations, including SafeNest.
