A phone call answered. A family sheltered. A survivor supported. πŸ’œ

As June 30 approaches, SafeNest is preparing to close another impactful fiscal year, and looking ahead to an exciting new chapter for survivors and families in Southern Nevada.

Last fiscal year, SafeNest served 10,234 individuals, provided 41,830 shelter and housing services, and answered 27,097 crisis and safety planning calls.

Now, we're preparing for our next chapter: One Safe Place, Nevada's first Family Justice Center campus, opening this October. This groundbreaking facility will bring advocacy, counseling, legal support, safety planning, and community resources together under one roof, making it easier for survivors to access the help they need in one safe, welcoming place.

As our fiscal year comes to a close, your gift helps ensure survivors continue to find safety, healing, and hope. Donate today using the link below.

Congratulations to our May Employee of the Month, Leslie Anica!

As a Bilingual Court Advocate, Leslie helps survivors navigate the legal system with compassion and support. A graduate of UNLV with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology, Leslie previously interned with the District Attorney's Office before joining SafeNest more than two years ago.

When asked what she enjoys most about her work, Leslie shared that she loves helping clients better understand the resources and processes available to them. Seeing survivors gain clarity, confidence, and hope through her guidance is what makes this work so meaningful.

Thank you, Leslie, for your dedication to survivors and the positive impact you make every day. We are proud to celebrate you!

SafeNest is proud to introduce Nicholas B., a member of Nevada's first VOICES Cohor.t πŸ’œ

Nicholas is a graduate of SafeNest's 26-week Batterer's Intervention Program and the first former abusive partner to join VOICES. His participation represents a powerful commitment to accountability, personal growth, and lasting change.

Through VOICES, Nicholas hopes to use his experience to show that transformation is possible and encourage others to break the cycle of violence through self-awareness, responsibility, and healing.

As Nicholas shares: "Because of my story as a former abuser and changing my life around, I hope to inspire someone in the same situation to make a change for the better."

VOICES is affiliated with Alliance for HOPE International and supports the work of One Safe Place, Nevada’s first affiliated Family Justice Center campus opening in 2026.

Learn more about VOICES and request a speaker at safenest.org/voices.

06/03/2026

The tragedy in Muscatine, Iowa, where multiple family members lost their lives in an apparent domestic violence-related murder-su***de, is a heartbreaking reminder that domestic violence can impact entire families - not just intimate partners.

Research from DomesticShelters.org shows that family annihilation cases are overwhelmingly committed by men, frequently involve fi****ms, and often end in su***de. Family Annihilation, where multiple family members are killed, occurs about once every 5 days in the U.S. This is a higher rate than in most other wealthy countries, due to the relatively easy access to fi****ms.

Domestic violence is not "just a private family matter." It can escalate into lethal violence when warning signs go unrecognized, or support is unavailable. Risk factors can include escalating threats, coercive control, access to fi****ms, family isolation, and a history of violence.

Early intervention matters. Warning signs such as escalating threats, extreme jealousy, isolation, controlling behavior, stalking, prior violence, or threats of self-harm should never be dismissed. Family, friends, coworkers, educators, healthcare providers, and community members all play a role in recognizing danger and connecting people to support.

Today, we honor the victims and their loved ones. We also reaffirm the importance of early intervention, community awareness, and accessible support services for anyone experiencing abuse.

If you or someone you know needs help, reach out to SafeNest using our 24/7 confidential hotline at 702-646-4981.
