Yawn Patrol President David Campbell will be our "Toastmaster of the Day" for the May 6 meeting. Two prepared speakers and evaluations, un-prepared speakers and stuff behind the scenes. Fun? Yeah. Interesting? Probably. A good way to start a Tuesday? Surely.

Tim will make a presentation in front of Congress! Before joining Yawn Patrol, Tim would have "politely declined" the invitation. Now, though, Tim has the skills, confidence and experience to inform, persuade and inspire the U.S. Congress. Congratulations, Tim!

Nick Received the "Best Table Topics" ribbon from LaTina at Yawn Patrol Toastmasters. "What is a belief that other people disagree?" Nick answered, "Posting memes on Facebook is beneficial. It is a negative to society, hurtful and a waste of time. The concept is good: keep people in contact. But social media isn't necessary to change people's minds."

April had a wonderful experience.

A few weeks ago, at a conference in Boston, April represented her company with a trade-show booth. Organizers asked her to speak to the entire group, more than 100 people.

April prepared, just like a Toastmasters speech. She used no notes when she spoke.

Nerve wracked and confident.

Afterward, someone told her she was a very eloquent speaker.

A stranger said, “good job” and gave her a fist bump. It turned out he was the keynote speaker!

Toastmasters works!

Nick was Topics Master and asked Sherry, "Votes are in and it's a tie between Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Which?" Donald Duck. Any man who goes through life without pants, and wags that feathery tail is best. He is ditzy. He would have a strong collection of collaborators. Huey, Dewey and Louie would haul his little pants-less butt out of trouble". Congratulations, Sherry.

April was the Yawn Patrol Toastmaster of the Day at the October 29th meeting.

Nick spoke about the three elements for wonderful scary stories: anticipation, misdirection and believability. While it's "scary movie season", stream "Diabolique". You'll like it. Good advice.

Jesse earned "Best Table Topics". What is the best Halloween candy and the worst? Full-size bars, especailly Snickers; Candy corn is just a scoop of candle wax. Good job, Jesse!

Lansing Yawn Patrol's feature speaker was Lisa Fisher, Principle at Lisa Fisher Associates, a professional speaker, certified trainer and an active, successful business consultant.

Lisa told of “Suma the Elephant”, whom monkeys kidnapped as a calf and tied to a tree with a thin string. When Suma strained the string, the monkeys threw coconuts at his head. Friends asked why he stayed with the monkeys and didn’t break the string. “I’m a pet. I’ll never be free”.

What’s my string? What prevents me from being free? Lisa’s freedom is “authenticity”. She can be the coach she wants to be. Self-awareness was key. Become the best version of what you can be.
