Mary describes Good Cheer as her “third place”, a place where she feels welcomed, connected, and supported.

What began as a visit to the Food Pantry became something much larger: community.

Now, alongside using our services, Mary volunteers her time helping support other neighbors who walk through our doors.

“I realized what a beautiful community it was.”

At Good Cheer, food is one part of what we provide. We also strive to create a space where people feel respected, valued, and cared for.

💛 If you’d like to help sustain this work, consider becoming a monthly donor today. This month, all new recurring donations will be matched by our Board of Directors up to $5,000.

Mary came to Good Cheer looking for support. She stayed because she found community.

Today, Mary is both a Food Pantry shopper and one of our volunteers: welcoming neighbors, stocking shelves, and helping create the same warmth she experienced when she first walked through our doors.

“I started volunteering because I came in as a shopper and the atmosphere was so wonderful, I wanted to be a bigger part of it.”

Her story reminds us that community care is never one-sided. The people who receive support are also the people who strengthen this community every day.

As costs continue rising across Whidbey Island, more neighbors are finding themselves needing a little extra support. Stories like Mary’s remind us that there should never be shame in asking for help, and that community can change everything.

If Mary’s story resonates with you, consider becoming a monthly donor to Good Cheer. Your support helps ensure that every neighbor who walks through our doors is met with nourishment, dignity, and community.

We are thrilled to announce that Good Cheer’s new solar and battery backup system is officially up and running! 🌞🔋

Thanks to support from Puget Sound Energy, we can keep serving our community even during power outages!

Our new battery backup system means our refrigeration and food storage will stay powered for extra days before we need a generator. This helps us minimize food spoilage, ensuring our neighbors have continued access to safe, quality food when power disruptions happen.

Plus, our solar system will cut down on utility costs, allowing us to invest even more in providing food for families and individuals facing food insecurity.

We are incredibly grateful for partnerships that empower us to build a stronger, more resilient food system for our community!

Chantell shares her experience growing up on Whidbey Island, how Good Cheer supported her family in difficult times, and why giving back to the community matters so deeply to her today.

Now, as the owner of Pickles Deli, Chantell continues that cycle of care by supporting Good Cheer through community fundraising and advocacy, helping ensure other families have access to food and support when they need it most.

Her story is a reminder that community care doesn’t move in one direction. Sometimes we receive support. Sometimes we give it. Often, it’s both. 💛

If you believe in building a hunger-free community, consider becoming a monthly donor to Good Cheer today.

Growing up on Whidbey, Chantell has seen firsthand how Good Cheer shows up for this community through every season of life.

Today, she’s the owner of Pickles Deli, a supporter of Good Cheer, and someone who continues to give back to the community that supported her. Through fundraisers, advocacy, and sharing her story, Chantell reminds us that care comes full circle.

“Growing up here, Good Cheer has been pivotal throughout my life, starting from a very young age.”

As the cost of groceries, gas, and rent continues to rise across Whidbey Island, more neighbors are turning to Good Cheer for support. Stories like Chantell’s remind us that needing help is human, and that community support can shape lives for generations.

💛 Whidbey takes care of Whidbey.

Today we’re launching Good Cheer, Full Circle: a campaign celebrating the way our community shows up for one another.

💛 Whidbey takes care of Whidbey.

Throughout this month, we’ll be sharing stories from neighbors who have both received support from Good Cheer and given back to our community through volunteering, advocacy, and generosity. These stories reflect something we see every day at the Food Pantry: care comes full circle.

As the cost of groceries, gas, and rent continue to rise across Whidbey Island, more neighbors are relying on Good Cheer to help keep food on the table. A week of groceries for a family of four, even shopping carefully and buying budget items, can cost more than $200.

At Good Cheer, we believe everyone deserves access to nourishing food and a welcoming community.

This month, we’re inviting you to help sustain that support by becoming a monthly donor. Reliable monthly donations help us keep our shelves stocked year-round - especially during the summer months, when donations are often at their lowest.

And this month, all recurring donations will be matched by our Board of Directors up to $5,000.
