A Letter from the HOPE Therapeutic Riding Program Board of Directors
We have been alerted that some misinformation has been posted regarding HOPE Therapeutic Riding Program and we want to address this directly, on the record, rather than let it stand unanswered.
HOPE is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and our finances are a matter of public record through our annual Form 990 filings. We receive no federal funding and are run entirely through donations, grants and rider fees. We lease horses from trusted owners in the community and own two, who live with their sponsors. No HOPE owned horses are involved in breeding. Every board member volunteers their time, sweat and tears. Small fees are paid to administrative office staff, instructors, haulers, and lessors for the use of their horses, vehicles, trailers and time. Most of our funding goes to scholarships for riders and horse care.
HOPE has a 40-year history on Whidbey Island, built and continued by many people over many years. The person posting these claims was part of HOPE four decades ago. They do not speak for this organization today, and they are not in a position to characterize what HOPE currently is, how it operates, or how it's run. HOPE’s board does its best to provide up to date information through our website and social media and encourages our followers, friends and donors to look there for accurate information. And as you know, we are around on Wednesdays at the fairgrounds if you want to stop by and see the amazing work our horses, riders and volunteers are doing.
HOPE’s priority has never wavered: our herd, our riders, and our volunteers.
We are grateful for our community. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.
Thank you
