For Gabriela “Gaby” Carroll-Greeves, the most meaningful part of high school was never just the activities themselves — it was the people, relationships, and sense of community built through them. Congratulations to Gaby, recipient of the LHS Class of 1961 Legacy Scholarship!

Throughout her time at Lakewood High School, Gaby immersed herself in athletics, leadership, volunteerism, and civic engagement. A varsity softball player, varsity gymnast, NHS member, SALT Board leader, First Ring Student Leadership Institute participant, and Lakewood Youth Council member, Gaby consistently sought opportunities to grow while helping strengthen the Lakewood community around her.

Teachers and mentors describe Gaby as thoughtful, dependable, humble, and someone who leads through action rather than attention. Whether organizing community events through SALT, mentoring younger athletes, volunteering with youth softball programs, supporting blood cancer fundraising efforts, or collaborating with local leaders through Youth Council initiatives, Gaby has built a reputation as someone who genuinely cares about making a difference.

In her scholarship essay, Gaby reflected on how extracurricular activities helped her form lifelong friendships, discover confidence, and feel empowered to create positive change. From softball road trips and gymnastics practices to leadership programs and volunteer experiences, she found a second family through involvement at LHS and learned the importance of stepping outside her comfort zone to try something new.

Gaby plans to attend Bowling Green State University to study Political Science with the goal of pursuing a career in government and public service.

Congratulations, Gaby! Your leadership, positivity, and commitment to serving others have left a lasting impact on the Lakewood community.

Some students stand out because of their accomplishments. Others stand out because of the way they continually push themselves to grow beyond what they once thought possible. Zachary Carnovale has done both. Congratulations to Zachary, recipient of the Carol Webb Scholarship!

Throughout his time at Lakewood High School, Zachary has challenged himself academically at the highest level while remaining deeply committed to athletics, mentorship, and personal growth. A National Merit Finalist and AP Scholar with Distinction, Zachary pursued one of the school’s most rigorous academic schedules, including AP Calculus BC, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and AP Computer Science.

But Zachary’s journey was not simply about achievement — it was about learning to go beyond his own expectations. In his scholarship essay, he reflected on how taking advanced math courses as a freshman became a turning point that helped him realize he was capable of more than he once believed. That mindset of continuous growth carried into every part of his high school experience.

As a varsity cross country and track athlete, Zachary also discovered the importance of leadership, teamwork, and community. Inspired by coaches and upperclassmen who encouraged him early in his athletic career, he became someone who now mentors and supports younger teammates while helping foster a positive team culture that contributed to a conference championship season.

Teachers and coaches describe Zachary as intellectually curious, humble, collaborative, and someone who genuinely enjoys learning for the sake of learning.
Whether in the classroom, on the course, or through volunteer service opportunities in the Lakewood community, he consistently leads with quiet confidence and integrity.

Zachary plans to continue studying Mathematics and Political Science after graduation, and will be attending The Ohio State University with aspirations of pursuing advanced research and innovation in the future.

Congratulations, Zachary! Your curiosity, perseverance, and commitment to growth have made a lasting impact on the Lakewood community.

Hard work, resilience, and community are at the center of Nathan Bruwer’s Lakewood High School experience. Congratulations to Nathan, recipient of the LHS Class of 1961 Legacy Scholarship!

Nathan has fully embraced the opportunities available at LHS, balancing academics, athletics, leadership, employment, and service throughout all four years of high school. A standout student in the West Shore Electronic Engineering program, Nathan has challenged himself through advanced coursework while preparing for a future in engineering.

Outside the classroom, Nathan has been deeply involved in athletics as a varsity basketball player, captain of the West Shore Lions Rugby Team, and member of SALT (Student Athlete Leadership Team). Under Nathan’s leadership, the rugby team captured a Division II State Championship, and he earned recognition as team MVP.

Teachers and mentors describe Nathan as hardworking, dependable, determined, and someone who naturally connects with people of all ages. Whether mentoring younger athletes, volunteering at community events, supporting Special Olympics activities, or balancing multiple jobs alongside sports and academics, Nathan consistently leads by example.

In his scholarship essay, Nathan reflected on a difficult experience that strengthened his perseverance and outlook. Supported by teachers, teammates, and the Lakewood community, he learned the importance of persistence, accountability, and leaning on others during challenging moments. He also shared how athletics taught him discipline, teamwork, and the value of committing to something greater than himself.

Nathan plans to attend the University of South Florida to study Electronic Engineering while continuing to pursue rugby at the collegiate level.

Congratulations, Nathan! Your determination, leadership, and positive impact on the Lakewood community truly embody the Ranger spirit.

For Theodora Bruening, leadership has never been about being the loudest person in the room, it’s about helping others feel seen, supported, and encouraged to grow. Congratulations to Theodora, recipient of the Carol Webb Scholarship!

Throughout her time at Lakewood High School, Theodora has balanced academic excellence with an extraordinary commitment to the arts, mentorship, and community involvement. A standout student in AP and CCP coursework, Theodora also served as Digital Media Editor for the yearbook, contributed to journalism programs, performed with the varsity gymnastics team, participated in orchestra, and spent more than a decade dedicated to dance.

But for Theodora, dance became much more than an extracurricular activity — it became a second family. In her scholarship essay, she reflected on the powerful mentorship and sense of belonging she found through Dance Lakewood, where she grew from a young dancer into a mentor and “big sister” for younger students. Inspired by the older dancers who once encouraged her, Theodora now teaches classes, assists younger performers, and helps create the same welcoming environment that shaped her own confidence and growth.

Teachers and mentors describe Theodora as creative, thoughtful, hardworking, optimistic, and someone who naturally lifts others up. Whether designing yearbook pages, mentoring younger dancers, balancing work and academics, or helping children build confidence through dance instruction, she consistently leads with kindness and integrity.

After graduation, Theodora plans to attend Ohio University to study Biology or Health Sciences while pursuing a future career in sonography.

Congratulations, Theodora! Your creativity, compassion, and leadership have made a lasting impact on the Lakewood community.

Six years ago, Livia Brahaj and her family moved to the United States from Albania and began the difficult process of building a new life in a new country. Today, Livia graduates from Lakewood High School as a top student, leader, mentor, volunteer, and future pre-med student. Congratulations to Livia, recipient of the Dr. William and Jane Huffman Scholarship!

Livia’s high school experience has been defined by determination, resilience, and a deep commitment to helping others. Despite English being her second language, she has excelled academically, ranking in the top 10% of her graduating class while taking AP and CCP coursework and remaining heavily involved in leadership and service organizations throughout the school and community.

At LHS, Livia has participated in NHS, Student Council, Model UN, Blood Cancer United, H2O, Peer Leadership, Philanthropy Club, mentoring programs, athletics, and volunteer initiatives supporting both local children and children in Albania. Through these experiences, she developed a passion for service, leadership, and medicine — especially pediatrics and neuroscience.

Teachers, mentors, and employers describe Livia as hardworking, dependable, compassionate, and someone who quietly leads by example. Whether helping younger students feel supported, mentoring middle schoolers, volunteering at camps, assisting families in Albania, or helping her own family navigate language and cultural barriers, Livia consistently puts others first.

In her scholarship essay, Livia reflected on how Lakewood High School became a place of opportunity, growth, and belonging. She shared how courses in psychology, sociology, biology, and chemistry deepened her interest in medicine while service opportunities strengthened her commitment to helping communities with compassion and empathy.

After graduation, Livia plans to attend The Ohio State University to study Neuroscience on a Pre-Med track.

Congratulations, Livia! Your perseverance, kindness, and commitment to others have already made a meaningful impact on the Lakewood community, and your future is incredibly bright.
