Maria Tallchief - the NYC Ballet
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1f8ccci5Qr/

Maria Tallchief didn’t just dance ballet—she changed what American ballet could be.

Born in Oklahoma to an Osage Nation family, Maria Tallchief shattered expectations in a field that rarely made room for dancers like her. As the first American prima ballerina and a star of the New York City Ballet, she brought power, precision, and a distinctly American presence to the world stage.

Tallchief’s legacy goes beyond technique—she proved that excellence doesn’t require assimilation, and that cultural pride and artistic brilliance can coexist.
