Happy Juneteenth!

Today, we join in celebrating freedom, reflection, and community. As we look out at our open trails, and the birds flying freely overhead, we are reminded that nature belongs to all of us. We believe that open green spaces have a unique power to heal, teach, and bring people together.

Our trails, nonprofit and educational spaces are open to everyone today and every day. We hope you can spend some time outside today with loved ones soaking in the beauty of the Adirondacks.

June is National Dairy Month!

This month is recognized as a time to celebrate the farmers, animals, and traditions that have helped shape our communities. Here at the Uihlein Foundation, this month holds a special meaning as our own history is deeply rooted in agriculture and the dairy industry.

Henry and Mildred Uihlein’s connection to farming began right here on the land we steward today. Their work with Jersey cattle, agricultural research, and sustainable land management reflected a deep commitment to innovation, conservation, and the future of farming.

Their passions continue to influence our work, from caring for this agricultural landscape, to providing opportunities for education, conservation, and hands-on learning.

This National Dairy Month, we’re grateful for the generations of farmers who have cared for the land, supported local communities, and helped preserve the agricultural heritage that connects us all.

A little rain couldn’t keep the artists away!

Plein air painters braved the drizzle today to capture the beauty of Heaven Hill Farm. Watching a landscape transfer to canvas through the eyes of an artist, rain clouds and all, is always a gift.

Thank you to the painters who joined us and celebrate the beauty of this place in every season! A shout out to who continues to host this wonderful event at Heaven Hill Farm each June.

Happy National Trails Day!

Today we’re celebrating the more than 10 miles of public access trails across Heaven Hill Trails and Henry’s Woods that connect our community with the natural beauty of the land. Whether you’re hiking, birdwatching, running, or simply enjoying some quiet time outdoors, we’re grateful to share these trails with you.

A special thank you goes to our staff member, Donald Ream, whose dedication, hard work, and expertise keep our trails in excellent condition year-round. From maintenance and improvements to tackling unexpected challenges, Donald’s efforts help ensure that everyone can enjoy a safe and welcoming trail experience.

We’re also thankful for the many organizations that develop, maintain, and steward trail systems across our region, as well as the volunteers who generously give their time at trail workdays and stewardship events. Your commitment makes outdoor recreation possible for countless people and helps protect these special places for future generations.

Happy trails, and thank you to everyone who helps keep them open, accessible, and thriving!

Meet Sarah Manitta, our Operations and Grants Coordinator!

Sarah values time outdoors and the opportunity to work for an organization that contributes so much to the local community through conservation, public access trails, and nonprofit support.

When she’s not working, you can usually find her tending to her gardens, creating silverwork, or exploring the Adirondacks with her family and her dog, Hazel.

Spring has a way of bringing Heaven Hill back to life. The trails are waking up, the fields are green again, and the birdsong is getting louder by the day.

Around here we celebrate spring by celebrating the birds, and the habitats that help them thrive!
