Brian Hitselberger | Poems

“In my studio, I’ve been revisiting various material made during an recent artist residency in Iceland - drawings, photos, and writing - and merging it into collages and paper constructions that sit inside frames or on my desk. Originally, much of this material was made on site in another context, but I find myself returning to it to alter it in order to reflect upon my present.”

“The landscapes and events, and the mornings and evenings in these pieces are all actual - I am not an artist who works with fictions. However, the associations made between a here and a there, and a then and a now are - for me - a means of interpreting our raw, loose universe. In other words, the are just poems.”
