What an extra special day at LARA’s 2026 Summer Graduation! We are incredibly proud of our graduates and grateful to everyone who helped make this celebration so meaningful.

Our ceremony featured inspiring words from student speaker John Cummings, as well as addresses from LARA staff and distinguished guests who shared words of encouragement with our graduates.

This graduation was especially meaningful as LARA celebrates 50 years of service in Adult Education! 🥳🎉

To commemorate this incredible milestone, State Representative Sheila Klinker presented LARA with a beautiful plaque recognizing 50 years of dedicated service to Adult Education. We were also honored to receive a congratulatory plaque from the City of Lafayette, presented by Eileen Hessions, celebrating this remarkable anniversary.

We are deeply grateful for the continued support of our community, our partners, our staff, and everyone who has been part of LARA’s journey over the past 50 years.

Most importantly, congratulations to our 2026 Summer graduates! 🎓 Your hard work, perseverance, and accomplishments are worth celebrating. We are so proud of you and excited to see where your journey takes you next!

Celebrating 50 Years of Changing Lives! 🎉📚

This year, LARA Educational Opportunities proudly celebrates 50 years of empowering adults through education, opportunity, and hope.

Our story began in 1976 when a group of visionary community leaders recognized the need for adult education in Tippecanoe County. What started as the YWCA Reading Academy grew into the Lafayette Adult Reading Academy (LARA), expanding services throughout the community and helping thousands of adults improve their literacy, earn their high school equivalency, learn English, and prepare for better careers.

In 2001, we became LARA Educational Opportunities, reflecting our growing mission and expanded programs. In 2024, we reached another milestone by becoming an independent nonprofit organization, allowing us to broaden our impact even further.

Today, LARA proudly serves learners across five Indiana counties with locations in Lafayette, Kokomo, Delphi, Monticello, and Peru. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we honor the dedicated staff, volunteers, partners, funders, and students who have made this journey possible.

For five decades, we’ve believed that education changes lives—and we’re just getting started.
