Maggie and Ollie are 10-year-old best friends who have spent their lives together, and they need their next chapter to be together, too.
Maggie is a 35-lb Australian Shepherd mix, and Ollie is a 19-lb Jack Russell Terrier mix. They arrived at Humane Society of Boulder Valley on June 30 after their elderly guardian could no longer care for them.
Shelter staff have found that both dogs become more anxious and fearful when separated, so HSBV is hoping to find a home where they can stay together.
Boulder reached out to us because they know exactly the kind of people we're sharing them with.
The Gray Muzzle Society community is full of people who see the value in older animals. People who know that ten years old doesn't mean a life is finished, and who aren't afraid to love an animal whose story started long before they met.
That's why we're asking our community to help us find Maggie and Ollie's person.
Gray Muzzle Society regularly welcomes senior and special-needs animals from open-admission shelters throughout Colorado.
Those shelters provide an essential safety net for the enormous number of animals surrendered in our state every day, a volume that foster-based rescues like ours could never absorb alone.
But that's also why Gray Muzzle Society exists.
A busy shelter simply cannot provide every senior or medically complex animal with the individualized, long-term care they may need to truly thrive. Our foster-based model gives us the ability to meet those animals where they are and provide the level of care they need, made possible because our community believes they're worth the investment.
We don't replace open-admission shelters, and they don't replace organizations like ours. We need each other. Sometimes that means transferring an animal into GMS care. Sometimes it means sharing resources, expertise, or an audience. And sometimes, as with Maggie and Ollie, it means working together to help two deserving old dogs find exactly the right people.
Maggie and Ollie are available through Humane Society of Boulder Valley. Their ideal home will keep them together and have no children under 10. HSBV is also offering them at a 2-for-1 adoption price to make sure these best friends stay together.
Maybe their person or family is already following us.
Two seniors. One home. One more chapter together.
