Members of the Rotary Club of La Porte enjoyed helping with a wonderful community event—the City Of La Porte’s Treats on the Trail—yesterday evening at the La Porte Airport. Everyone had a great time! Thank you to the Rotarians who came out to help!

Susan Passmore, left, Rotary Club of La Porte membership engagement director, presents a donation from the club to Tammie Nielsen of Sarah’s House at the recent Reverse Draw. The mission of Sarah’s House is to be a community resource and safely bring victims of domestic violence and homelessness toward self-sufficiency.

The Rotary Club of La Porte enjoyed hearing about the Student Life LP program, one of the organizations that the club helps to support each year, during the Oct. 28 club meeting. Thank you to Frank Nance, Jeff Martin, and Thomas Green for sharing the impact that Student Life has had on La Porte ISD campuses. Student Life is a project of the The Root To Fruit Foundation, which was founded by Nance, Martin, and Rick Helton, all of whom are La Porte Rotarians.

Our club is proud to continue our support for Student Life in La Porte ISD!

Now in its fifth year, Student Life has grown from one LPISD campus to all five secondary campuses. Each week, volunteers from churches across the La Porte area gather with students to offer encouragement, build confidence and resilience, and remind them they are valued and supported.

Student life is part of The Root To Fruit Foundation, a non profit founded by Rotarians Jeff Martin, Rick Helton, and Frank Nance.

Every student deserves to know that their presence matters. At Student Life, we make it a priority to notice the student who walks through the door, learn their name, celebrate when they show up, and recognize when they don't. Whether a student is outgoing and surrounded by friends or quietly sittin...

They asked him who owned the polio vaccine. His answer? “The people.”

In the 1950s, polio terrified families, leaving thousands of children paralysed.

Dr Jonas Salk helped change history. In 1955, following a trial involving 1.8 million children, his groundbreaking polio vaccine was declared effective.

When asked who owned the patent, Salk famously replied:

“Well, the people, I would say. There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?”

His words remain a powerful reminder that the greatest achievements aren't always about personal gain, but about what we can give to others.

Sometimes, changing the world starts with giving something away.

We are very proud of our EarlyAct students across La Porte ISD helped collect and donate supplies to our City Of La Porte, TX Adoption Center & Animal Shelter and four our furry friends at the Deer Park Animal Shelter, giving time on their Saturday morning!

Please come by our EarlyAct kiddos as we support our two local animal shelters and collecting donations today from 10 to noon.

We are looking to Fill the Shelters will dog and cat food, used towels and blankets, soap and supplies, toys and treats.

Our 2026 Rotary Reverse Draw is in the books! Thank you to everyone for your support! We are so grateful to be a part of this community that cares so much about service to others.
