We envision a Guatemala where NO child suffers from malnutrition. We believe that God has a plan for every single child. We partner with vulnerable and underserved communities in Central Texas and Guatemala to make sure children have their the fundamental needs met so that they can be everything they were created to be! What does that look like?
1. It looks like food and nutrition programs so tha

t children can develop to their full potential, and perform at their best because they aren't hungry all the time.
2. It looks like clean water programs so that families can drink water that isn't contaminated with f***l matter (p**p), bacteria, parasites, and other pathogens that make them sick all the time.
3.. It looks like community projects like road improvements, building onto village schools, and health initiatives like anti-parsite treatment for kids.
4. It looks like education programs so that our partner communities can become more resilient, self-sufficient and begin to create opportunitiies for success. Ancora is 100% funded by people who share our passion for helping children and families be everything they were created to be.

$5 will provide nutrition for a child in Guatemala for a month.

Sunday was Father's Day in Guatemala, and we celebrated in the community of El Sauce with - what else? - a futbol grudge match between los viejos (the old guys, aka the dads) and los jovenes (the young whippersnappers). To (almost) everyone's delight, the old guys defeated the youngsters. The winners got a trophy and a new hat. The losers got a start reminder that Old Guys Rule.

We love celebrating with our communities, because "convivencia" is where life and friendships happen. And that's exactly who our community partners are: people we love!

Did you know that 26 languages are spoken in Guatemala, and that most of them are Mayan? Last month, we launched 3 community partnerships in the Alta Verapaz Department, and all 3 communities spoke Q’eqchi and not Spanish. We are grateful to Pastor Manuel from Iglesia Ministerio Nueva Vida in the community of Chaimal for being our team’s translator!

One of the things that constantly amazes us about our team in Guatemala is their adaptability and their commitment to serving vulnerable communities - no matter the challenges. It would take something bigger than a language barrier to keep them from serving!

Last month we launched with 60 children enrolling into the Preschool Nutrition Program, in partnership with Iglesia Nueva Vida Jehova. One of our non-negotiable is name brands. That may surprise you, but sometimes, labels matter. Our kids in the Feed Kids Right Now weekend food program are accustomed to getting the leftovers, hand-me-downs, and other items that people don’t want anymore. There isn’t anything wrong with leftovers and hand-me-downs. We love HEB brand everything.

But when it comes to our kids, we buy the name brands. Our kids need to know they are worth Kraft. They are worth Kellogg’s. We aren’t just filling their tummies. We are telling them that they are loved and valued. That they matter. These little micro investments, week after week, month after month, year after year, remind them that we see them and that they are important.

That is 100% worth a few extra cents every week.
