Pollinators don’t just make our gardens beautiful—they’re essential to our food system. 🐝🌻

About 75% of the world’s flowering plants and 35% of our food crops rely on animal pollinators to reproduce. That means 1 in every 3 bites of food depends on pollinators like bees, butterflies, and beetles. At Rodale Institute, our research connects the dots between pollinator health, organic practices, and resilient food systems. By promoting regenerative organic farming, we’re building habitats that support both crop production and biodiversity.

Want to protect pollinators? Start with the soil.

What could the future of farming look like?

Rodale Institute’s Midwest Organic Center partnered with Salin 247, a robotics company focused on autonomous farming technology, to plant corn in our Diverse Systems Trial.

Emerging technologies like autonomous equipment have the potential to help make farming more sustainable, efficient, and cost effective, while supporting farmers facing labor shortages, rising input costs, and changing environmental conditions.

By testing these tools in real-world organic systems, we can better understand how innovation and regenerative organic agriculture may work together to support the future of farming.

Free Webinar: Can Organic Dairy Meet Science-Based Climate Goals?
June 17 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT

The Science-Based Targets Initiative is the leading framework for corporate climate action, used by over 10,000 companies globally, including some of the world’s biggest dairy brands. But the details behind corporate climate plans are rarely shared publicly, so it can be hard to evaluate the science behind a science-based target. In this webinar, we use data from a fast-growing organic yogurt company, Painterland Sisters, to assess the feasibility of meeting science-based targets for organic dairy. We show that SBTi’s “near term” targets are readily achievable for organic dairy. But SBTi’s “long term” net-zero targets appear to be currently unfeasible. We share some alternative long-term ideas for climate and dairy, including “fossil fuel free” dairy and separate goals for methane and other greenhouse gases.

Panelists will include:
Franklin Egan and Matty Rotman, Painterland Sisters
Sage Dennis, Rodale Institute

Women have always been essential to agriculture - growing food, caring for communities, stewarding the land, and shaping the future of farming.

In 2026, the United Nations officially recognizes that impact through the International Year of the Woman Farmer.

Women farmers play a critical role in food security, nutrition, biodiversity, and economic resilience across the globe, often without the recognition or resources they deserve.

🌱 Here’s to the women farming with resilience, knowledge, care, and vision every single day.

Clean water starts in the field.

In a new position paper, Sean Stokes, PhD, Research Director at Rodale Institute’s Midwest Organic Center, examines how intensive agricultural systems are contributing to nitrate and pesticide contamination in drinking water across the Midwest, and why in-field solutions matter.

The paper highlights how practices like cover crops, diversified crop rotations, and organic management can help reduce pollution at its source while improving soil health and farm resilience.

Read the full paper:

Abstract Access to clean drinking water remains a pressing public health challenge in the United States, particularly in the Midwest where agricultural
