Did you know that only Egyptian goddesses are depicted as cobras?

One of these was the benevolent goddess Renenutet, who was connected with abundance and a bountiful destiny.

In this relief, Renenutet is shown as a cobra-headed woman nursing her son, the grain god Nepri. However, the small figure may even be the pharaoh, identifying himself with Nepri to reinforce both Renenutet’s and his own role as a bountiful provider.

This scene appears in the Theban tomb of Khaemhat (TT 57), the Overseer of the Granaries of Upper and Lower Egypt under the reign of Amenhotep III.

From the current issue of Nile Magazine ( #42).

These are the kinds of things that keep me awake at night...

I am often asked:
"Where are your pagan gods, surely 'they' aren't in Heaven."

To this I answer:
"No they aren't in Heaven,
They ARE Heaven.
They are in the rocks in the mountains.
The leaves on the trees.
They are in the laughting waters of a clear stream.
They are the feathers in the wings of Eagles.
They are in the humming of the bees.
The petals of soft flowers.
In the flames of the Beltaine fires.
They are in me."
