It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved District Pinewood Derby Guru and Cub Scout Pack 244 Assistant Cubmaster, Larry Buck.
Larry passed away December 13 at his home after a year and a half courageous battle with cancer. Larry never let his cancer get in the way of his upbeat personality and would still show up for events, the day after a treatment. Those who knew Larry know that he always had a story to tell and brought a vibrance and energy along with passion to everything he did. He was the Assistant Cubmaster for Pack 244 for eight years as well as serving as the District Pinewood Derby Chair for which he had a true passion. Larry loved to build fast, unique cars that always had everyone wanting to know his secrets and get tips for their own cars. There was not much Larry wasn’t able to teach. He always put the scouts first. Larry earned the District Award of Merit in 2024. When Larry moved out of the area, he would still travel down every Tuesday to be a den leader to the Pack 244 Tigers and Thursdays for District Committee and District Roundtable.
Larry's legacy and love for Pinewood Derby will live on at District Pinewood Derby.
The Buck Cup was made this year for him, and for the Pack with the best average time. A tradition which will continue in his memory.
Please keep Larry’s family, friends and scouting family in your prayers during this difficult time. As many know Larry’s grandson had been living with him.
At this time no service information has been provided. We will share the details once we receive them.
