GRANT AWARDED—Cambrie Borchers, Southdale fourth-grade teacher, received grant support for her project titled INDI-vidual Thinkers: Building STEAM Skills Through Robotics.

She wrote,

“This grant enhanced student learning by providing hands-on, engaging opportunities to explore foundational coding and robotics concepts through the Sphero INDI robots. The best part of this project was the high level of student engagement and excitement during hands-on robotics activities. Students were eager to collaborate, experiment, and problem-solve while learning coding concepts in a meaningful and accessible way. The joy on their faces when they experienced success after trial and error was priceless.”

GRANT AWARDED—Rachael Foster, art teacher at Greenmont Elementary, received a grant titled African American Artists through Young Eyes.

Grant funds were used to purchase consumable art supplies, display and hanging materials, and adaptive tools to support students with sensory needs, ensuring that all students could fully participate in and enjoy the creative process. In February 2026, Greenmont celebrated Black History Month with a school-wide art show featuring original artwork from every student in kindergarten through fifth grade, inspired by the lives and works of African American artists.

Rachael shared,

“The students demonstrated genuine excitement and pride, and the art show was successful, helping to build community and pride in our own artwork. It also allowed students to experience art from a variety of perspectives.”

The Kettering Education Foundation began in 1990 as a dream of Kettering resident, Susan Bieber, whose research showed that our community was one of the few in the Dayton area without a private foundation for its schools.

Susan and the other founders, John Bieber, Roger Bauser, Dale Medford, and Chuck Havener, spent three years investigating the needs of the school district and programs offered by other foundations across the state of Ohio.

Leadership for the KEF is comprised of Kettering-connected people, while fiscal oversight of our funds is maintained by TDF, which serves the Miami Valley region. This partnership allows for KEF to benefit from local leadership and profit from resources pooled with others for investment growth.

GRANT AWARDED- Susan Moses, KMS Counselor, was awarded a KEF grant titled Fostering Social Skills and Interactions
through Lunchtime Games, such as Connect Four, Checkers, and decks of cards for games.

“This grant allowed KMS 6th grade students to work on social skills, such as talking to each other and not look at a screen, make eye contact, lose at something and show sportsmanship. It also helped students find others who have the same interests and grow the friend group.”
