Life Connection of Ohio's mission took over McPherson Stadium during the Central State University homecoming football game on Saturday!

The star of the show was Life Connection of Ohio volunteer Porothea Dennis, whose story was highlighted just before kickoff.

Porothea was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease in 2014. She suffered a heart attack and a stroke, and her kidney function declined rapidly. After three years of enduring dialysis, everything changed when she received a life-saving kidney transplant on August 31, 2021! Porothea's transplant gave her a second chance at life, allowing her to return to full-time work and keep up with her children and grandchildren.

Thank you to Porothea for inspiring Central State Marauder fans to say “yes” to passing life on through organ donation.

Our Hero Hustle 5K aims to strengthen support, education and recognition of organ, eye and tissue donation in northwest Ohio.

The most meaningful 5K around will be Saturday, November 7, at Dana World Headquarters campus in Maumee. There will be a 5K Run/Walk, Family Fun Run, Kids' Run and K9 Hero Kits for your furry friends!

📣 The countdown is on for the seventh annual Harvey J. Steele Memorial Blood Drive! 📣

Blood donation and organ donation gifted Harvey with 20 additional years of life and inspired his daughter, Kara, to work at Life Connection of Ohio. Life Connection of Ohio would like to welcome Allie Schaible to our life-saving team! Allie will serve as an Organ Recovery Coordinator at our Toledo Regional Office.

“One of my favorite parts of my nursing job was caring for my intubated, critical patients. I did have the opportunity to care for lots of donor patients and, by extension, their families. I am excited to take that experience and carry it over to my role as an Organ Recovery Coordinator," Allie said. "I recognize that the act of donating can be a very heavy decision for some families, while the recipients and their families are receiving a life-saving gift. I am eager to be a part of such delicate and important work.”

We could not let World Sight Day go by without throwing it back to a beautiful message from John, a grateful cornea transplant recipient.

"All I had wanted for the past 30 years was to see my children for the very first time," John said. "When they removed the bandages from my eyes, I looked across the room, and sitting there was my family. I could see them!"
