Hau hau Relatives! We were hoping for rain this past week, but we will have to wait longer. The burn ban in King County continues. We are hopeful the fire season in WA state comes to an end soon and praying for all of the people effected. There are still 19 active large fires throughout the state. We will see you next month.

Until then, please join us this Sunday at the Billy Mills Run/Walk for life at North Seattle College hosted by UNEA. We will be attendance for the run and set up alongside many other great Resources and Vendors. See you there!

This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with community members, share information about your programs and services, build partnerships, and support Indigenous wellness, culture, and empowerment.

Thank you WA DOC for the recognition of this meaningful work and for the honored opportunity to do it!

This is just a glimpse into one of the many pow wows currently happening around the state that Unkitawa has the pleasure to help coordinate with our incarcerated relatives and collaborate with state facilities to ensure access to culture and tradition for all involved.

We look forward to sharing more as the season continues.

A special Thank You to all of our Staff, Contractors and Volunteers who help provide these services and more to all of our state’s indigenous populations.

On a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon, the Tribal Sons Native American group residing at the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton held its annual powwow for nearly 200 attendees. Prayer, song, dance, and drums filled the air, as bells and cones jingled and beaded moccasins carved a path on the newly landscaped grounds.

Special thanks to those who participated and made this possible, including our volunteers and community sponsors, and our contractor Unkitawa who oversees all services for the state's incarcerated Native American population.
