We had another fabulous weekend with Anne Gribbons. There were several tricky problems that Anne helped riders solve and get through. Some riders even got to learn how to piaffe and passage in just one lesson. And got to experience how amazing that feels and that most horses also enjoy it.
THANK you to Caryn and Mike for hosting us and to Petra Hilleberg for treating us to a home cooked gourmet dinner on Saturday. The fish soup was to die for!

EI DRESSAGE RIDERS!

The Equestrians Institute and its members have received a very generous offer from the Oregon Dressage Society, our Oregon USDF Region 6 GMO.
This is another wonderful opportunity for EI members that qualified for our canceled EI Championships to still get a chance and get a championship experience.
At difficult times like these, it is wonderful to have this openness to collaboration in our region.

Dear Equestrian Institute Members,

We know this season has asked a lot of you. Smoky skies and wildfire stress have touched so many of us across the Pacific Northwest, and we were heartbroken to see two Region shows — both in Washington — canceled due to smoke this year.

We want you to know: Oregon Dressage Society sees you, and we've got your back.

We're offering reciprocal ODS membership to Equestrian Institute members who were unable to compete for their championships because of wildfire-related cancellations. This membership allows your EI championship qualifications to carry over and apply directly to the Oregon Dressage Championships on September 4th at DevonWood Equestrian Centre.

You worked hard for your scores this season — a little smoke shouldn't be the reason you don't get to show them off. We'd love to have you join us to celebrate everything you've accomplished, compete at a beautiful facility, and get in some great prep before the USDF Region 6 Championships in October.

It is with great regret that we must inform you that this weekend’s horse show has been canceled due to the hazardous air-quality conditions caused by wildfire smoke in Washington State.
We understand how disappointing this news is, particularly after all of the time, preparation, and expense that goes into preparing for a horse show. This decision was not made lightly, but the health and safety of our horses, competitors, officials, staff, and spectators must come first.

Over the next several days, we will be working to determine the expenses and financial obligations that must still be paid as a result of the cancellation. Once we have a clear understanding of those costs, we will determine the amount of the refunds due to each competitor.

Thank you for your support and understanding. We are just as disappointed as you are!

Equestrians Institute Driving needs volunteers for our 2026 Combined Driving Event. It will be held at Sunny Meadow Farm in Rochester, WA on August 14th through the 16th. On Friday, August 14th, we still need a dressage scribe. On Saturday, August 15th, we need marathon obstacle judges/timers and controlled warmup stewards/timers. No experience necessary - our officials will train you! On Sunday, August 16th, we need cone setters - no experience necessary.

We will be firing up the grill and serving volunteers lunch on both Saturday and Sunday. Friday volunteer lunch will be a make your own sandwich bar.

Volunteering is a great way to learn about the sport of combined driving and it gives you a front row seat. Please volunteer if you can! Here is the link to the online volunteer signup:

UPDATE...
As several shows in our area have been forced to cancel, we understand the uncertainty of whether shows will happen due to the Eastern Washington/Spokane area fires, and we are of course very sad and concerned for everyone over there battling this disaster.

As far as the EI Show August 14-15, we have no plans to cancel the show, but we will naturally follow the situation as it progresses. We are not able to predict the future situation, and since we still have nine days until the show starts, we are of course hoping that the air quality will get better by then. Rest assured, we will let everyone know if there is a change.

(Refunds will be honored according to our prizelist. The official closing date for the show is today August 5).
