Marshall Benhard Thomas and criminals like him can run: but they cannot hide. The arc of environmental justice is long, slow, and unforgiving…. Semper Inspirante Servare

Our BIG reveal!! HMF has taken ownership of WWII veteran the USS DEKAURY. She’s the very last of her kind. She’s fully operational and very well restored. In the spring of 2026 she will make the journey from San Francisco to Seattle, where she’ll join our collection.

A note about the recent vessel losses in Puget Sound and the future of ATA 202 Comanche:

Boats are always trying to sink. This is the Sailor’s reality. The work being done in the background to keep historic ships afloat is continuous and grueling. This month has reminded all of us how much attention is needed to stay ahead of the chaos. We are saddened by the loss of vessels, and also by the large environmental and fiscal impacts the public has borne. To all Captains out there in dire straits we urge you to ask for help early and often. Historic Ship Rescue has a large network. While we cannot be everywhere at once, we will do what we can to make connections and help prevent the next disaster.

As for ATA 202 Comanche: she is a rusty girl in need of fresh zincs. She’s rusty because over the past four years volunteers removed thousands of gallons of fuel from fuel tanks: polishing and using salvaged fuel rather than buying new diesel. She’s rusty because volunteers packed the shaft. She’s rusty because volunteers removed all fuel and oil from
the bilge so it can be cleaned and safely pumped out without a sheen. She’s rusty because volunteers changed the oil on the main engine and removed 500 gallons of used oil. She’s rusty because volunteers developed tank logs and sounded the tanks rather than ignoring them. She’s rusty because she has less than 2000 gallons of combined oil and fuel on that boat at any time. She’s rusty because volunteers set up standby pumps and got the fire pump working in case of emergency. She’s rusty because volunteers saved The Valiant and gave Comanche the es**rt tug she deserves. She’s rusty because she runs….

With fresh leadership we encourage each and every one of you to take advantage of the work that has been done to give the People of the Great State of Washington the safe and reliable platform that is Comanche:
follow Tug Comanche - better yet, grab a paint brush and go be a part of History!
