Kearney VFW Home of VFW Post 759, and their guests. The VFW exists to support veterans, and their families. Stop in and be our guest!!

The VFW, with its Auxiliary, includes 2.6 million members
in approximately 9,000 Posts worldwide. Our accomplishments are many, including lobbying for a GI bill
for the 20th century; donating more than $1 million
each to the Vietnam, Korean, Women in the Service
and World War II memorials; fighting for
compensation to veterans diagnosed
with Gulf War Syndrome; and improving VA medical
centers services for women veterans. In 2001, VFW unveiled its tribute to service and country
with its dedication of Centennial Plaza . Annually, VFW members and its Ladies Auxiliary contribute
more than 13 million hours of volunteerism in the community,
including participation in Make A Difference Day and National Volunteer Week. From providing $2.5 million in college scholarships to high school
students every year to encouraging elevation of the
Veterans Administration to the president's cabinet,
the VFW is there--honoring the dead by helping the living. The objects of the Veterans of Foreign Wars are fraternal, patriotic, historical
and educational; to preserve and strengthen comradeship among its members;
to assist worthy comrades; to perpetuate the memory and history
of our dead, and to assist their widows and orphans;
to maintain true allegiance to the Government
of the United States of America, and fidelity to its
Constitution and laws: to foster true patriotism, to maintain
and extend the institutions of American freedom;
and to preserve and defend the United States from all her enemies, whomsoever.

🇺🇸 **VFW Post 759 Honor Guard at the 2026 Nebraska Governor’s Summit** 🇺🇸

We are proud to share this video of the **VFW Post 759 Honor Guard presenting the Colors at the 2026 Nebraska Governor’s Summit** in Kearney.

It was an honor for our Post and Honor Guard to help open an event bringing together leaders from across Nebraska to discuss the future of our state, our businesses, and the next generation of Nebraskans.

For our Honor Guard, presenting the Colors is more than a ceremony. It represents our continued service, respect for our Nation and its flag, and our commitment to the community we call home.

We are incredibly proud of the men and women who continue to represent **VFW Post 759 and America’s veterans** with professionalism and pride.

🇺🇸 Ever wonder what happens after you drop off your worn or damaged American flag in that box?

It does not simply disappear, and it is never treated as ordinary waste.

Each flag is carefully gathered and given a final act of respect through a solemn flag retirement ceremony. As the flames consume the fabric, the symbol it carried is not destroyed. The service, sacrifice, freedom, and memories represented by every star and stripe remain.

This year, nearly 4,000 pounds of American flags—filling 96 heavy-duty bags and boxes—were respectfully retired. It took more than seven hours to complete the ceremony and ensure every flag received the dignity it deserved.

Some of these flags once flew over homes. Others honored veterans, marked graves, stood over businesses, or waved proudly during community celebrations. Each had its own story. Together, they represented generations of Americans and the freedoms entrusted to us.

The ashes were laid to rest with the same reverence shown throughout the ceremony—a final burial for symbols that had served their nation well.

A heartfelt thank-you goes to every volunteer who gave their time, effort, and respect to this important duty. Retiring that many flags was no small undertaking, but honoring our nation’s colors is a responsibility worth carrying.

Their fabric may be gone, but what they represented will never fade.

🇺🇸 May these flags rest with honor.
