Round two of Habitat Garden Tours is coming up! 🐝🌸

On June 6th, join us as we explore three residential native gardens in Midtown. We are showcasing gardens that heal, inspire, support wildlife, and are just nice to look at! More information about each garden and the day of event can be found on our Habitat Garden Tour webpage.

This tour is on the last day of our Pop-up Pollinator Plant sale - a three day plant sale hosted by Deep Roots at the Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center. Find a plant that you like on the tours and then take that plant home with you on the same day. 🌱🏑

We are looking for volunteer support both at the three day plant sale and at the Habitat Garden Tours! Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn more about our programs and mission, and also grants you a FREE Habitat Garden Tour ticket. Learn more on the Habitat Garden Tour or Native Plant Sale pages!

As our staff member Cydney Ross likes to say, "when in doubt, sedge it out!"🌿

Sedges not only act as a great, shade tolerant turf replacement, they also add charisma and texture to any yard! Here are some of the Deep Roots staff's favorite native sedges.

Did you know sedges bloom? The blooms of a Carex species are often in the form of unique green or brown spiked shapes. There are sedges in bloom starting in early April all the way through October and these blooms are, in fact, adorable!

Share with us what sedges you all have in your gardens!

ATTENTION JOHNSON COUNTY RESIDENTS: Deep Roots has partnered with Johnson County Stormwater's 'Contain The Rain' program to give away 150 native trees to residents of Johnson County who remove a Callery pear tree. This is in support of an effort to better manage stormwater and support wildlife with more native trees!🌳🐝🌳

Steps to get a tree:
1. Cut down a Callery pear tree on your property! And take a photo of it, perhaps with a person or house in the background for scale.
2.Register using the Eventbrite link above for one of 150 trees
3. Show up to pick up your free tree on May 9th at the Deep Roots Native Plant Sale event location. Verify your Johnson Co residency, then show your removed pear photo to Deep Roots staff, volunteers, or partners as you check in to select your free native replacement.

The offer is limited to one native tree (3-gallon pot size, approximately 4 feet tall) per Johnson County household. Registration is required.

Tree availability will be on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations for specific trees. Trees will be available only during event times on May 9th. Please show up if you register, as supplies are limited to 150 registrants and demand is high.
