Is 49: 1-6/ Ps 139: 1b-3. 13-14ab. 14c-15/ Acts 13: 22-26/ Lk 1: 57-66. 80

The LORD called me from birth,
from my mother's womb he gave me my name.
He made of me a sharp-edged sword
and concealed me in the shadow of his arm.
He made me a polished arrow,
in his quiver he hid me.
You are my servant, he said to me,
Israel, through whom I show my glory.
Though I thought I had toiled in vain,
and for nothing, uselessly, spent my strength,
yet my reward is with the LORD,
my recompense is with my God.
For now the LORD has spoken
who formed me as his servant from the womb,
that Jacob may be brought back to him
and Israel gathered to him;
and I am made glorious in the sight of the LORD,
and my God is now my strength! Is 49
Saint John the Baptist commands our interest because he is a witness. By his witness, he reminds us that we are called to be witnesses. And in any age, to be a witness is challenging. The witness of John the Baptist begins with his birth. The miraculous circumstances of his conception and birth direct our attention to the mysterious and transcendent . Fr. James Farfaglia

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine,
lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear you to pieces.
Do to others whatever you would have them do to you.
This is the Law and the Prophets.
Enter through the narrow gate;
for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction,
and those who enter through it are many.
How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life.
And those who find it are few." Mt 7

We must efface ourselves always, just as the moon effaces itself to give place to the sun. May the love of Jesus reign in our hearts. As for ourselves, we shall deem ourselves nothing.
Rev. François Delaplace, C.S.Sp.

What do I need to surrender so that I might let the love of Jesus reign in my heart?

2 Kgs 17: 5-8. 13-15a. 18/ Ps 60: 3. 4-5. 12-13/ Mt 7: 1-5

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Stop judging, that you may not be judged.
For as you judge, so will you be judged,
and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you.
Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye,
but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?
How can you say to your brother,
'Let me remove that splinter from your eye,'
while the wooden beam is in your eye?
You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first;
then you will see clearly
to remove the splinter from your brother's eye." Mt 7

I have asked the Holy Spirit to fill you with His gifts according to your need. May the pure breath of this Holy Spirit animate your soul so that it may live a life above poor human nature and find its joy, its consolation and its happiness in God alone.
Rev. François Delaplace, C.S.Sp

“And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul;
rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy
both soul and body in Gehenna.
Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin?
Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge.
Even all the hairs of your head are counted.
So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Everyone who acknowledges me before others
I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.
But whoever denies me before others,
I will deny before my heavenly Father." Mt 10

Receive Holy Communion every day. The Divine Physician will never complain because the sick come daily to ask Him for remedies. In this Sacrament which is the last expression of His Love for us, Jesus is, above all, our Physician, Father, Friend, Consoler, and Support.

2 Chr 24: 17-25/ Ps 89: 4-5. 29-30. 31-32. 33-34/ Mt 6: 24-34

Learn from the way the wild flowers grow.
They do not work or spin.
But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor
was clothed like one of them.
If God so clothes the grass of the field,
which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow,
will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith?
So do not worry and say, 'What are we to eat?'
or 'What are we to drink?' or 'What are we to wear?'
All these things the pagans seek.
Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. Mt 6

Pray, hope, and don’t worry.
St. Pio of Pietrelcino

2 Kgs 11: 1-4. 9-18. 20/ Ps 132: 11. 12. 13-14. 17-18/ Mt 6: 19-23

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal.
But store up treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. Mt 6

Humility towards our neighbor! No one is inferior to me, for we are all of the same noble birth—children of God. No one owes me any respect.must love my neighbor through gratitude, affection, and devotedness, and I must show him these marks of affection. I ought to pray for him who believes himself to be proprietor of the gifts he has received, to have compassion on him, and not be offended by him.
Rev. Mother St. Laurent, sscm

June 18 Ordinary Weekday
Sir 48: 1-14/ Ps 97: 1-2. 3-4. 5-6. 7/ Mt 6: 7-15

This is how you are to pray:
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
If you forgive others their transgressions,
your heavenly Father will forgive you.
But if you do not forgive others,
neither will your Father forgive your transgressions. Mt 6

The sufferings that come to us from the different seasons or the climate are, when courageously accepted, as much more meritorious as they are less in accordance with our choice. Let us follow Jesus! He will make us happy and even exceed our fondest hopes.
St. Aloysius Gonzaga

2 Kgs 2: 1. 6-14/ Ps 31: 20. 21. 24/ Mt 6: 1-6. 16-18
When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites,
who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners
so that others may see them.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door,
and pray to your Father in secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. Mt 6

For me prayer is a surge of the heart, it is a simple look towards Heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.
St. Therese of Lisieux

1 Kgs 21: 17-29/ Ps 51: 3-4. 5-6ab. 11 and 16/ Mt 5: 43-48

"You have heard that it was said,
You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?
Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers only,
what is unusual about that? Mt 5

Every act of apology, of pardon gently given, of gracious support of others or of benevolent kindness increases sanctifying grace in us and our union with God. Is not this the ideal towards which we all should tend? Is it not the explicit command of God?
V. Rev. Mother Mary of Providence, sscm

June 15 Ordinary Weekday
1 Kgs 21: 1-16/ Ps 5: 2-3ab. 4b-6a. 6b-7/ Mt 5: 38-42

Jesus said to his disciples:
"You have heard that it was said,
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil.
When someone strikes you on your right cheek,
turn the other one to him as well.
If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic,
hand him your cloak as well.
Should anyone press you into service for one mile,
go with him for two miles.
Give to the one who asks of you,
and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow." Mt 5

Man often becomes disturbed, as though all things depended upon him, when it is really God Who is guiding him in everything. God has designs for man in accordance with His Divine Justice, Mercy, and Goodness. Have confidence always! Let us pray; let us sanctify ourselves and touch the Heart of God by our abandonment to Him.
Rev. François Delaplace, C.S.Sp.
