Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated honors Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, as an historic moment in American history. On June 19, 1865, news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, marking the true beginning of freedom for all.

We proudly recognize the efforts of our own trailblazing Soror, Opal Lee, the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” whose unwavering advocacy helped make Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday in 2021.

Today, we celebrate emancipation, reflect on our ancestors’ strength and resilience, and recommit to the work of advancing justice, equity, and unity. Through education, action, and solidarity, we move closer to a world rooted in true freedom for all.

Along with our Supporters, Gamma Alpha Psi Zeta had a wonderful time partnering with the Citadel of Kankakee for a spirited Bingo Day! We engaged residents through multiple rounds of Bingo, bringing energy, laughter, and connection to the room. With over 200 prize options available, there was excitement at every turn—and even more meaningful was the genuine fellowship we shared with the residents.
