Another publicized injury created by a provider who is not an acupuncturist using Dry Needling and for the bonus round this person caused two pneumothoraces at once and got themselves suspended. Vetted training and the third-party examination to demonstrate competency would make so much more sense than this:

https://www.watoday.com.au/national/western-australia/bunbury-physio-suspended-after-dry-needling-leaves-woman-with-two-collapsed-lungs-20260617-p607py.html?fbclid=IwZnRzaASgn6pleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAo2NjI4NTY4Mzc5AAEeHkALjSI1aXIpYq21xsLhvEfEwretVG2qjEsePFJMHjYdjNB-7ar0c4Ve3TM_aem_5M9Zw_Yj6KzB57EJF0mzVA

The patient sought physiotherapy for a tension headache but was left with near-fatal pneumothorax and a four-day stay in hospital.

Have you ever had acupuncture and wonder how it works? The chi, life energy circulates through our plasmic biofield. According to my psychic friend she sees a web of meridians hovering beyond the skin and the points are where the whorls of chi cycle in and out. Trying to imagine a microview of a miasma being released from the needling.

Here’s an article about our colleague Richard Mandell who is retiring from his local practice but continuing on with his Global Acupuncture Project which has trained over 350 health care practitioners in acu in Africa and South America. The article explains the origin of the Global Acupuncture Project and the work it does. I’ll include the link to the GAP in the comments. They can always use financial and needle/supply donations and also volunteers who’d like to travel abroad to help train local medical practitioners to complement their work with acupuncture.

Mandell recently sold his practice in Coolidge Corner and is planning to continue working with the Global Acupuncture Project.

Rest easy Neal. You will be missed 💗

Today we honor the life and legacy of Neal Stuart Miller, LAc (December 10, 1957 – February 2026).

Neal was a licensed acupuncturist since 1982 and a behind-the-scenes powerhouse who devoted more than four decades to protecting and advancing our profession. He believed acupuncture is strongest when we speak with one voice—and he lived that principle through consistent leadership, mentorship, and tireless advocacy.

Neal helped achieve milestones that continue to benefit patients and practitioners:

• California workers’ compensation recognition for licensed acupuncturists—and the successful effort to make that status permanent
• The FDA’s 1996 reclassification of acupuncture needles to Class II (medical device), a pivotal step toward modern access and reimbursement
• Professional unity through the co-founding of the original California State Oriental Medical Association (CSOMA) and later service as President of CalATMA
• Support for integrated medicine through AIMS, including efforts around Tui Na recognition and low-level laser stimulation

Neal practiced at SCO Medical Center (Studio City Oriental Medical Center) in Sherman Oaks, CA, and he brought warmth, authenticity, and a love for The Grateful Dead wherever he went.

Our hearts are with all who loved him. If you have a story, photo, or memory of Neal, please share it below.
