It is with a painful heart that I share the passing of our beloved Starburst. In the short time he was with us, we all fell deeply for this amazing little guy. There are truly no words to convey how much he was loved.

This evening, Starburst began showing all the signs of colic. After evaluation, bloodwork, and the extremely high readings, it is believed he was suffering from a strangulating lipoma. Despite every effort to help him, his condition declined rapidly.

Our hearts are broken tonight. Starburst touched so many in such a short amount of time and reminded us all just how special these horses are. He knew love, safety, and kindness during his time with us, and for that we are grateful.

Please keep our team in your thoughts as we process this difficult loss. Run free, sweet Starburst. You were loved beyond measure.

May 19th day after big storms. All is well with the herd.

Great feedback. Many of us have encountered situations like this. Something to think about.

Excited for our current volunteers program and their journey through Plan for Progress. Obstacle course day is always a favorite!

These moments are about so much more than learning horsemanship skills — they build confidence, communication, patience, and trust between horse and handler. Watching these participants grow alongside the horses is truly rewarding.

We are proud of each individual taking part in this journey and can’t wait to see all they accomplish.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you amazing moms out there. Whether you’re a grandparent, foster parent, adoptive parent, or even a parent to the fuzziest little creatures, each of you plays a role filled with love, compassion, and nurturing.

Today we celebrate the countless ways motherhood shows itself through care, sacrifice, guidance, and unconditional love. Wishing you all a beautiful and blessed Mother’s Day from Rainbow Meadows.

Day two assisting the horses with how to use the isle to the back pasture.

What a day it’s been! Training went great, the horses are more than ready to head out to pasture, and we’re happily calling it a wrap. Nothing better than a productive day at the barn

Community, Education, and Care in Action
One of the things we cherish most about our rescue is the incredible sense of community we’ve built with our volunteers. Together, we are constantly learning—growing our understanding of equine health, behavior, and care. Education is at the heart of what we do.

Over the past year, we’ve begun inviting volunteers to join us on trips to K-State Large Animal when our horses need medical attention. These opportunities allow us to learn firsthand and deepen our knowledge, which we’re proud to share with our Facebook family through photos and updates. Transparency and education help us continue paying it forward to everyone who loves and supports Rainbow Meadows.
This week, we took Malibu in for a procedure to remove a growth on her eyelid and a larger mass on her muzzle. Both have been sent off for testing to ensure there’s nothing more concerning behind them.

At RM, we understand that horses who come into rescue aren’t always free from challenges—whether that’s growths, health concerns, or behavioral needs. We are honored to be their stewards and advocates, providing the care and compassion they deserve.
Through every challenge comes growth, and we’re grateful to be on this journey with all of you—our volunteers, supporters, and extended Facebook family. 💛

Thank you for being part of our mission, our learning, and our continued growth.
