New World Screwworm has been found in Texas. Producers are asked to be vigilant and monitor their herds! To learn more on NWS visit: www.screwworm.gov

USDA APHIS has CONFIRMED a case of New World Screwworm (NWS) in a 3โ€‘weekโ€‘old beef calf near La Pryor, Texas, and has activated a unified incident command. A 20 km control zone is now in place with movement restrictions on all warmโ€‘blooded animals in that area. All other animals on the premises have been examined, and no additional NWS infestations were found.
Over the past year, APHIS has deployed 8,000+ traps and examined 58,000+ flies nationwide with ALL tests negative outside of this event. In response, APHIS has expedited 4 million sterile flies for immediate use by ground and aerial release, with production expected to ramp up to tens of millions per week by late summer.

The BEST thing producers can do right now: be vigilant. Keep eyes on cattle and other livestock, check animals frequently, and work closely with your veterinarian if you see anything suspicious.

Importantly, USDA, FDA, and CDC have all reaffirmed: this is NOT a food safety issue. The risk is to animal health and livestock production, not the safety of meat or other products.

USCA will remain fully engaged with federal and state partners and will continue to share updates and guidance with producers as new information becomes available.

This day is not just about BBQs, days off, parties, boating and trips... we also, and most importantly, honor and remember our Military who gave the ultimate sacrifice to the United States of America. And think of, with gratitude & respect, all Veterans no longer with us. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Never forget, FREEDOM ISN'T FREE-- from the Kansas Cattlemen's Association ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ
