It's beginning to look a lot like "Puttin On the Glitz"! Still lots to do, but this is a great start!
Today, I am so thankful for Randy, Shelly Picking, Joshua Gray, Kim Zimmerman, Ariana, and staff for listening to my vision and helping make it happen! A little back story that I must share because several are asking and questioning the venue for the Glitz this year. I had the venue secured at Sonesta (former Marriot) JC Convention Center in March for our Glitz event and had met with the owner several times. You may have seen a save the date flyer as well with their venue as that was the plan. A week 1/2 prior to our September golf tournament I received a call from the owner telling me that there had been a previous reservation (when it was the Marriot) that he did not know about on my Glitz date that had been made and that he had to honor it and was dropping our event. Working with the City, Main Street and others with events, we cannot change the date as it stays the same each year, for the past 20 plus years. Therefore, I needed to focus and find a venue that was local and could hold 200 people, a social hour setting, photographer, dance, auction and more to have this annual fundraiser Gala. This Foundation has been raising funds for Geary County since 1987 and we were not going to let that stop us. Thankfully, City Manager Kim Zimmerman was gracious to work with me on my last-minute request to have it at the municipal building as we both had the same goal for the community. I have worked with our D.J. to make sure we have great acoustics and turn it into a winter Gala. I/we feel blessed that we have this facility to use in our own town, and with doing this, I am able to ensure that dinner will be fabulous catered by the Farmhouse and we are able to bring in local donations as we are not allowed to at the convention center and the cost of this venue has increased significantly. This is not a negative post or asking for negative feedback, just an honest one with how the situation played out and how grateful we are. We are looking forward to "Puttin on the Glitz" raising funds for Healthcare related scholarships and Fund a Project. We are also excited that we are sold out and have ended the ticket sales! Thank you to all that are attending and to all of our sponsors. It will be a fun night! If you have any specific questions, feel free to private message me. For me, this is a great reminder not to judge a book by its cover, to stay focused on the end goal!
