Big things are coming to the Boys & Girls Club of Johnson City! 🚀✨

We are putting the finishing touches on a brand new STEM program designed to close the opportunity gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for kids right here in our community. 🔬💡Once our renovations are complete, this program will be ready to go and trust us, it will be worth the wait!

Spring Break turned out to be a remarkable success, with members engaging in a variety of exciting activities throughout the week.

Our Academic Interventionalist facilitated reading groups, academic board games, and library field trip, fostering connections, enjoyment, and enhanced learning among members.
The extended time at the club also enabled participants to make significant strides in Read Across America, collectively reading **1,731 pages**—which is equivalent to **3,462 minutes** of reading.

We are immensely proud of their commitment and hard work. We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to provide your children with a space to connect, learn, and have fun during Spring Break.

Our members take full advantage of the opportunities we provide at our club to read a variety of books on site along with what we bring in weekly from the Johnson City Public Library.

Our first week of Read Across America our club members read a total of 302 pages, which is the equivalent of 604 minutes of reading! Reading allows members to grow in vocabulary, reading comprehension, and fluency. Reading also helps fight against learning loss, which during this time of year is common. We are so excited to see our members showing initiative in their learning.

We reached out to some of our members to discover why they love reading and to hear about their favorite books. The responses were a compelling reminder of the numerous benefits that reading offers. Through literature, children can venture into new worlds, broaden their understanding, and develop in ways that may not be achievable otherwise. Even dedicating just five minutes a day to reading can bolster vocabulary, enhance fluency, and improve comprehension skills. These essential skills pave the way for academic achievement and foster a lifelong passion for learning.

We have been reading all month for our Read Across America challenge and we hope you and your child join us in this adventure.
