The WCCAC's mission is to reduce the trauma of child maltreatment by providing a child-oriented environment for the coordination, multidisciplinary investigation, intervention, and treatment of child abuse and neglect victims of Walker County. The mission of the Walker County Children's Advocacy Center is to reduce the trauma of child maltreatment by providing a child-oriented environment for the
coordination, multidisciplinary investigation, intervention and treatment of child abuse and neglect victims in Walker County. CAC Staff, Law Enforcement, DHR, Mental and Medical Health Professionals, Forensic Interviewers and Advocates, and District Attorneys Office representatives all work together forming a multi-disciplinary team to work on behalf of the child victim and their families. The CAC is the team's central hub where forensic interviews are conducted by a trained professional, Victim and Family Advocacy are offered to ensure basic needs are met, appropriate referrals are made, and support is given to the child victim and their family. Specialized Therapeutic Intervention is offered at our center by a therapist trained in TF-CBT to help through their journey of healing from the trauma experienced. Court Advocacy is another service provided at the CAC to the child victim and family. We will support and assist in preparation for trial and testimony, as well as during court proceedings.
