Day 5 — The Person Is Still In There

Addiction can make someone behave in ways that don’t look anything like the person their family remembers.

Dishonesty.
Manipulation.
Broken promises.
Isolation.
Anger.
Choices that hurt the people who love them.

Those behaviors have consequences—and recovery requires accountability for them.

But we believe something fiercely at Hope for Women:

The woman is still in there.

She is more than the worst thing she has ever done.

Recovery isn’t pretending the past didn’t happen.

It’s becoming someone who doesn’t have to live that way anymore.

We have watched women become trustworthy again.
Dependable again.
Joyful again.
Present again.

We’ve watched daughters come back.
Mothers come back.
Friends come back.

We’ve watched women come back to themselves.

That’s why we believe in recovery. 🦋

Day 4 — The “Rock Bottom” Myth

RECOVERY MYTH:

“You have to hit rock bottom before you’ll get sober.”

Nope.

You don’t have to lose EVERYTHING before you’re allowed to change.

Rock bottom isn’t a particular jail cell, divorce, overdose, lost job or amount of money in your bank account.

Sometimes rock bottom is simply the moment you finally decide:

I don’t want to live like this anymore.

And here’s the really good news:

You can stop digging.

You can ask for help.

You can choose a different direction.

You don’t have to wait until addiction takes one more thing from you.

🦋 Recovery can start today.

Day 3 — Addiction Shrinks Your World

Addiction has a way of making your world smaller and smaller.

At first, life is full of people, dreams, jobs, family, hobbies and plans.

Then the addiction starts taking up more room.

Eventually the world can become:

How do I get it?
How do I hide it?
How do I pay for it?
How do I recover from it?
How do I get more?

Recovery reverses that process.

Your world starts getting BIG again.

You discover relationships.
Purpose.
Faith.
Work.
Laughter.
Peace.
Dreams.
And a future.

That’s one of our favorite things to watch happen.

A woman comes through our doors believing her life has gotten very small.

Then little by little, God reminds her:

There is still so much life ahead of you. 🦋

💚Hope for Women is incredibly thankful to the Walker Area Community Foundation and the Collective for investing in our mission.

The funding we received will allow us to build a new website—and for us, that means so much more than having a place on the internet.

It means a woman struggling with addiction may find us when she is finally ready to ask for help. It means a family looking for hope will be able to learn what we offer. It means donors, churches, businesses, and community partners will have a place to see what God is doing through Hope for Women and find ways to be part of it.

A website gives our mission a bigger front door. ❤️

We are so grateful for a community that believes in this work and continues to invest in helping women build new lives.

Thank you for helping us reach farther, tell our story better, and continue giving hope.

🦋 THANK YOU, MICHELLE LOPEZ & MILLWORK AND SUPPLY, INC.! 🦋

Hope for Women was blessed with a brand-new washing machine, thanks to the generosity of Michelle Lopez at Millwork and Supply, Inc. 🙌

Michelle is extra special to us. She’s part of my Covenant Nazarene church family, a former Hope for Women board member, and someone who continues to support this ministry and the women we serve.

And y’all… a washing machine in a house full of women is not a small gift. 😂 That thing is about to enter FULL-TIME MINISTRY! 🧺🙌

Michelle, thank you for continuing to believe in Hope for Women and for seeing a need and meeting it. We are so grateful for people and businesses in our community who come alongside us and help us do what we do every day.

It truly takes a village—and we have a pretty amazing one. 💜

Thank you, Michelle and Millwork and Supply, Inc.!

Day 2 — Nobody Wakes Up Wanting Addiction

Nobody wakes up one morning and says,

“I think I’ll destroy everything I love today.”

Addiction usually begins long before everything falls apart.

Sometimes there is trauma.
Sometimes grief.
Sometimes loneliness.
Sometimes untreated pain.
Sometimes it starts with wanting to fit in, have fun, escape, sleep, cope—or simply feel different for a little while.

Then somewhere along the way, what once felt like a solution becomes the problem.

Understanding someone’s story doesn’t erase accountability.

It helps us understand what needs to heal.

At Hope for Women, we don’t just ask:
“What did you do?”

We also ask:
“What happened?”
“What are you trying to escape?”
“And what will it take to build a life you no longer need to escape from?”

That’s recovery. 🦋

💜 SEPTEMBER IS RECOVERY MONTH 💜

For the next 30 days, we want to show you what recovery really looks like.

It isn’t just “not using.”

It’s rebuilding trust.
Showing up for work.
Learning to tell the truth.
Sitting with uncomfortable feelings instead of running from them.
Making amends.
Finding purpose.
Learning to love yourself again.
And sometimes… doing the dishes when you absolutely do not want to. 😂

Recovery is hard work—but we get to watch women do it every single day.

This month, we’re celebrating the courage it takes to change your life.

🦋 RECOVERY LIVES HERE.
🦋 HOPE LIVES HERE.

It takes courage to recover. Do not let fear keep you from putting yourself into your best life.

Today, Hope for Women was blessed by an anonymous donor who filled our home with everyday essentials—from cleaning supplies and toiletries to paper products and so much more. These may seem like ordinary items, but to us they mean dignity, stability, and one less burden as we help women rebuild their lives.

To our anonymous donor: thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus. Your generosity is making a difference in ways you may never fully know.

There truly are angels among us. ❤️🦋
