RUFF Walking Home Project

RUFF Walking Home Project This page is to help RUFF share stories about our permanent foster program. We call them our “fospice” dogs.

These are dogs that either can’t be placed for behavioral reasons or come to us with only a few good years, months or weeks to live.

There are some updates I wish I never had to write. 💔

Melon’s pathology report came back, and the news is devastating — it’s an invasive mammary carcinoma that has already spread to her lymph nodes. There’s nothing we can do to stop the cancer.

But here’s what we can do: we can love her through the time she has left. Melon is now with a wonderful hospice foster, where she will know nothing but comfort, dignity, and love for the rest of her days.

Her belly will never again long for food.
She will never be cold or too hot.
She will never wonder if someone cares.

She sleeps in a bed now. She has soft blankets. She snuggles with a tiny human just for fun. And when the time comes, she will be walked home surrounded by love — the way every dog deserves.

Thank you to everyone who helped us fight for her. Melon will never again be alone.

Meet Sasha , she has been in our Hospice program for over year now . The girl is absolutely precious, she is around 9/10 years old with a heart issue , and she is left with her front legs that don’t work the best due to strokes she had before coming into our program !
