Mental Health Monday: Small moments build strong connections.

Connection doesn't always require a big conversation or a special family outing.

Sometimes it's sitting together at the end of a long day. Listening to a story you've heard a dozen times. Asking a child about their favorite part of the day. Checking on a friend or giving someone your undivided attention for a few minutes.

In the middle of busy schedules and everyday stress, these little moments remind us that we matter to one another.

This week, look for one small opportunity to connect with someone you love.

You don't have to make the moment extraordinary. Just be present.

🚨 ROAD CONDITIONS UPDATE | TREES & POWER LINES DOWN

The Pickens Sheriff’s Office continues to receive reports of trees and power lines down across the county following severe weather.

Areas in and around the following roads have reported hazards:

📍 Grandview Road
📍 Cove Road
📍 Highway 136 East
📍 Henderson Mountain Road
📍 East Price Creek Road
📍 Refuge Road

Crews are actively working to clear roadways, and power companies have been notified of downed power lines.

⚠️ PLEASE USE CAUTION

We strongly encourage everyone to avoid unnecessary travel while crews work to clear these hazards. Never approach or attempt to move downed power lines, and treat all downed lines as energized.

Please be patient as emergency personnel, road crews, and utility workers continue working to restore safe travel conditions throughout Pickens County.

Thank you so much Tate Elementary School for collecting books on 9-25 in honor of Dolly Parton! Because of your partnership we were able to fill Little Free Libraries all over the county!

We can think of no greater way to honor Dolly’s legacy than gifting the joy of reading, and making sure that books are free and accessible to everyone in our community! 💕📚

Mental Health Monday: Su***de prevention starts with all of us.

Su***de prevention isn't just about knowing what to do in a crisis. It's about creating families, friendships, schools, workplaces, and communities where people feel connected, valued, and safe asking for help.

It starts with checking in.

It starts with listening.

It starts with taking someone seriously when they say they're struggling.

It starts with making sure people know they don't have to face difficult things alone.

You don't have to be a mental health professional to make a difference. You can be the person who notices. The person who asks. The person who listens. The person who stays. The person who helps someone connect with support.

Every one of us has a role to play in creating a community where people feel seen, supported, and valued.

Let's keep the conversation going long after Su***de Prevention Month is over. Because prevention isn't just a September conversation. It's something we build together, every day.

Mental Health Monday: A difficult moment doesn't have to become your whole story.

When you're in the middle of a difficult season, it can be hard to imagine things being different. Pain can make the present feel permanent, and sometimes it can be difficult to see beyond what you're experiencing right now.

But a moment is not a lifetime.

Circumstances can change. Support can help. Healing can happen. And you don't have to figure out the entire road ahead today. Sometimes the next step is simply reaching out to someone you trust and letting them walk alongside you.

If you're struggling, please know that needing help doesn't mean you've failed. It means you're human, and you deserve support.

And if someone you care about is going through a difficult time, remind them that their current circumstances don't define their future. Stay connected. Keep showing up. Help them find the next step.
