Please share with those you know who may be in need: CARES food pantry at Cares Drive in Jasper is having their huge free vegetable give away today until noon. Just drive up and volunteers will load veggies and some fruits (including watermelon) into your vehicle.

A glimpse at what it looks like for our wonderful Wednesday morning volunteers to pack up nearly 4,000 food items into the childrens' snack bags! These will go on to be delivered for over 500 students around the county to take home with them over the weekend. 🍎 🍪🥜🥨🥫

WSP is a volunteer run local charity that works to ensure students in Pickens County have sufficient food during their weekends away from school. Bags of individually wrapped non-perishable items are packed and sent home with students each week.

As we all know it takes a lot to survive these days, but no child should go hungry. So if you can PLEASE HELP this wonderful local charity.

The Weekend Snack Program would like to give a heartfelt thank you to The First Baptist Church of Jasper Georgia and the children they hosted for VBS this past week. Together, they donated over 2,000 snack items to our program and we are beyond grateful!

With the school year coming to a close, we'd like to honor one of our beloved volunteers. Gene "the Applesauce King" Emig has been with the snack program for 11 years and we are beyond grateful for the time he has spent with us. We couldn't prep snacks for the children without wonderful people like him!

The Weekend Snack Program would like to take a moment to acknowledge our generous volunteers. From counting and sorting food items, to packing bags, to delivering to schools across the county - thank you all for your time and everything you do!

Research shows that students who are hungry often have difficulty concentrating, making it harder for them to do well in class, on assignments, and in taking standard tests. Over 50% of the total student population in Pickens County Schools qualifies for free or reduced-rate lunches.
Throughout the academic year the WEEKEND SNACK PROGRAM works to ensure that students in the Pickens County school system have sufficient food when they are away from campus over the weekend. Each week we pack over 650 bags full of snacks and easy-to-prepare foods for students in our county to take home with them.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Donations – whether one-time, occasional, or regular – are greatly appreciated. All financial contributions are tax-deductible, as we are a registered 501(C)3 charitable organization.

Food donations are welcome as well. For a list of common items included in the weekend snack bags, please see the Amazon wish list linked on our page.
Volunteers are also needed for shopping, sorting, packing, delivering, and other tasks necessary to keep the program running smoothly.

Additionally, if you or someone you know is in need of assistance, please see your child’s school counselor or office staff member and pick up a form to participate in the program.
