Are you ready to give your child a strong start for kindergarten and beyond? 📚❤️

The Walker County HIPPY Program is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 program year!

🏠 What is HIPPY?
HIPPY is a FREE early childhood program that brings learning right to your home! Our trained Home Visitors provide families with fun, age-appropriate activities, books, and support to help children build the skills they need to be successful in school.

✨ HIPPY helps families:
📖 Build early reading and language skills
🔢 Develop early math and school-readiness skills
👩‍👧 Strengthen parent-child relationships
🎨 Learn through fun, hands-on activities
📚 Receive books and educational materials
🤝 Connect with other families through group events and activities

💛 Who can participate?
Families with children who are 2, 3, or 4 years old may be eligible to participate.

🏡 The best part?
You don't have to leave your home! A trained HIPPY Home Visitor meets with you each week and shows you how to use the activities with your child. You become your child's first and most important teacher!

A special thank you to Jennifer Williams Smith and Venuss Hillman with TLC - Walker County Chapter for joining us at the library today and providing FREE books to the children in our Summer Reading Programs!

We are so grateful for your support and for helping us encourage a love of reading in our young readers. Giving children the opportunity to choose and take home books helps keep the joy of reading going long after our summer programs end.

What a wonderful morning celebrating the Jasper Public Library’s Summer Reading Finale! 📚

We enjoyed learning from Maggie Johnston, visiting with our Jasper Reads friends, and sharing our love of books with families throughout our community.

There is nothing better than seeing children excited to pick out a new book to take home. We hope every child who visited today discovers a new favorite story and enjoys many adventures through reading this summer!

A big thank you to the Carl Elliott Regional Library for hosting such a fun event and for helping inspire a lifelong love of reading. We hope these new books lead to unforgettable adventures all summer long! ☀️📖 🧡

🎉 Our First P.O.P. Graduate! 📚

Last night we celebrated a milestone for The Literacy Council’s Literacy for Justice-Impacted Adults program as we recognized Richard Thomas, the very first graduate of our P.O.P. (Power of Pages) program!

Richard has been with us since Day One, joining our very first class on January 7. Throughout this Walker County Sheriff's Office pilot program, he has been more than a faithful attendee. He has been an engaged learner, an encourager to others, and someone who helped shape what P.O.P. has become.

Richard, thank you for believing in this program and for allowing us to be part of your journey. Watching your growth has been an honor, and your determination has inspired all of us.

As you begin your next chapter, remember that the power of pages doesn’t end here. Every page you turn is another step toward a brighter future. Keep turning pages, writing your story, and proving that it’s never too late to learn, grow, and inspire others.

Congratulations, Richard! You’ll always hold a special place in our hearts as the very first P.O.P. graduate. Here’s to the first graduate of many! ❤️📖
