It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Bubba, a longtime member of the Mounted Patrol.

Born in 2002, Bubba joined the Mounted Patrol team in 2010. A Percheron/Clydesdale, he was a big horse in every sense of the word. But it was his steady, dependable presence that made him so special. Over his 16 years with the department, Bubba taught most of the officers who came through the program how to ride. He was patient with new riders and gave them the confidence that comes from knowing they could trust the horse underneath them. For countless officers, Bubba was more than a partner, he was their first teacher and a steady presence as they learned the unique responsibility of Mounted Patrol.

Bubba was also a familiar and beloved presence throughout Madison. He stood steady through countless Halloweens, Mifflin Street Block Parties, and long nights on State Street. In the middle of crowds, noise, lights, and the unpredictability of police work, Bubba remained calm and reliable. After so many years with the team, Bubba became the most recognizable horse in our unit. Many Madison residents knew him by name, and countless people have a story or a memory that includes seeing Bubba and his rider somewhere in the city.

Bubba passed away peacefully at the farm, surrounded by the people and horses who had been part of his life. While we are heartbroken to lose him, we are grateful for the years he gave to this department, this community, and the many officers who had the privilege of riding him. His impact on the Mounted Patrol will live on through the officers he taught and the countless people he met throughout his career.

Thank you, Bubba, for 16 years of service, patience, and unwavering dependability. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of retired Stanley Police Chief Roy Fredrickson, after a short battle with cancer.

Chief Fredrickson dedicated many years protecting and serving the citizens of the City of Stanley. He was sworn in as a patrol officer for the City of Stanley on October 24th, 1985. He worked as a patrol officer for the City of Stanley until January of 1993 when he was appointed to the position of Police Chief, a position he held until his retirement in August of 2011.

His legacy of integrity and bravery will never be forgotten. We're keeping his family, friends, and former colleagues in our thoughts during this difficult time.

**** NEWS RELEASE/DRUG ARREST ****

On Thursday, August 20th, 2026, An officer from the Poynette Police Department had a vehicle pass him and he received a WI DOT return that the license plates were suspended. As the officer tried to turn around on the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle appeared to take off at a speed greater then the posted speed limit.
Another officer from the Poynette Police Department located the vehicle parked in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot and saw a female driver exit the driver's seat.
Consensual contact was made with the female and it was determined that her driver's license was also suspended.
K9 Nox was called to the Piggly Wiggly and alerted to the presence of an illegal substance inside the vehicle.
A probable cause search was conducted on this vehicle and the female driver, identified to be Christina R. Evert, age 36, who is a Wisconsin resident was arrested.
She made an initial appearance in Columbia County Circuit Court on August 21st, after being charged by the Columbia County District Attorney's Office with the following:

Count 1- 961.41(3g)(g) Possession of Methamphetamine Felony I
Count 2- 961.41(3g)(am) Possession of Narcotic Drugs Felony I
Modifier- 961.495 Possession of a Controlled Substance on or near Certain Places
Count 3- 961.573(1) Possess Drug Paraphernalia Misd. U

Christina Evert was given an $2,000 signature bond and remains in the Columbia County Jail on a Probation and Parole hold.

In Memory of K9 Ace

It is with profound sadness that the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office announces the unexpected passing of K9 Ace following medical complications.

Ace arrived here in August 2020, and since then, faithfully served the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Fond du Lac County alongside his handler, Sergeant Andrew Kohlmann. In these last six years, Ace demonstrated an extraordinary level of dedication, courage, and commitment to the community he served.

Together, Sgt. Kohlmann and K9 Ace were deployed 479 times, resulting in 496 arrests and countless instances in which Ace’s skills helped keep our deputies and community safe.

Throughout his career, Ace was responsible for helping locate and seize significant amounts of illegal drugs and other evidence, including:

• 1,347 grams of co***ne
• 1,080 grams of he**in
• 2,657 grams of methamphetamine
• 2,070 M**A pills
• More than 1,500 scheduled narcotics pills and prescription medications
• 236 paraphernalia arrests and citations
• 35 illegally possessed fi****ms seized
• More than $100,000 in drug-related cash seized

While these numbers demonstrate the tremendous impact Ace had on law enforcement and community safety, they do not tell the whole story.

K9 Ace was more than a law enforcement tool. He was a partner, a protector, and a beloved member of the Sheriff’s Office family. Behind every deployment was a dedicated dog who relied on his training and instincts, and a handler who trusted him completely. Together, Ace and Sgt. Kohlmann formed a partnership that made a lasting difference in Fond du Lac County and to our Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit. The duo’s work was an integral factor in driving the growth of our K9 program to the size it is today.

Ace worked when called upon, stood beside his fellow deputies, and served our community without hesitation. His contributions will continue to be felt through the people he helped protect, the dangerous substances and weapons he helped remove from our streets, and the countless situations in which his service made a difference.

Today, we ask the citizens of Fond du Lac County to join us in remembering K9 Ace and honoring the six years of faithful service he gave to our community.

To Sgt. Kohlmann: We recognize the tremendous bond between you and Ace and the loss that comes with saying goodbye to a trusted partner and friend. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens you served together are grateful for everything you both gave to this community.

Today, we share the heartbreaking news of the unexpected passing of our beloved Therapy K9, Gizmo.

From 2020–2026, Gizmo faithfully served alongside Officer Aasterud, bringing comfort, compassion, and countless smiles to everyone he met. His gentle spirit touched the lives of so many throughout the Whitnall School District and the City of Greenfield.

Whether he was comforting a student, brightening someone’s day, or simply offering a wagging tail during a difficult moment, Gizmo had an incredible gift for making people feel safe, seen, and loved.

His paw prints will forever remain on the hearts of those who had the privilege of meeting him. He was more than a Therapy K9—he was a friend, a partner, and a cherished member of our community.

Run free, sweet Gizmo. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. 🐾💙
