October 22, 2026 marked an incredible milestone for the UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute (CCRI)! 🎉

What was once anticipated as a 2029 groundbreaking is now a reality—made possible by the extraordinary dedication of our donors, supporters, and partners who believe in the mission of bringing world-class cancer care to Mississippi. With our public campaign phase originally planned for October 2027, we are already breaking ground one full year ahead of schedule.

To every donor, advocate, and supporter who has helped bring this vision to life: thank you. Your generosity and commitment are helping transform the future of cancer care, research, and prevention in our state.

During his training at UMMC in the early 1980s, Pace found mentors who modeled excellence not only in surgical skill but also in character. Now in 2026 the Greenville, South Carolina, physician and educator is ensuring those lessons continue to influence future generations through a $50,000 gift supporting orthopaedic resident education at UMMC.

The gift honors two physicians who profoundly impacted Pace’s life and career: Dr. Jim Hughes, UMMC’s first chair of the Department of Orthopaedics, and Dr. Frazier Ward, a respected orthopaedic surgeon and UMMC educator.

The fund will help support orthopaedic residents attending the AO Foundation courses and educational conferences, providing opportunities to learn from experts beyond their home institution and gain exposure to new perspectives and techniques.

The gift also reflects the Paces’ enduring gratitude to an institution and a community that helped shape both their professional and personal lives.

A gift from Comprehensive Radiology Services of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, will help future radiologists at the University of Mississippi Medical Center gain access to educational and professional opportunities that will shape their careers and strengthen health care across the state.

CRS has committed $129,750 to establish an endowed fund that will support radiology residents’ attendance at professional conferences, where they can learn from leaders in the field, present their research and build connections.

The endowment reflects CRS’s longstanding commitment to both patient care and physician education, a mission deeply rooted in the organization’s history and relationship with UMMC.

✨ What a wonderful evening celebrating our Circle of Giving members at Children’s of Mississippi’s Evening of Gratitude at the Country Club of Jackson on Tuesday.

This special gathering recognized the generous donors whose annual gifts of $1,000 or more help provide children across Mississippi with access to world-class pediatric health care.

Guests enjoyed an evening of fellowship and inspiration, including remarks from Dr. Mary B. Taylor, Suzan B. Thames Chair of Pediatrics and CEO of Children’s of Mississippi, along with heartfelt stories from Patient Ambassadors Walker Mims and Mary Elizabeth Yates. Their stories offered a personal look at what donor support means to children and families at Children’s.
