While in Chicago, Doris Haynes Miller, Community Liaison, MS Delta Collaborative, visited the Obama Presidential Center, continuing conversations that uplift the work happening across the Mississippi Delta and exploring opportunities to connect our efforts with leaders advancing community health and economic opportunity nationwide.

The visit was especially meaningful as Partnership for a Healthier America was founded in 2010 in support of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! Initiative, a shared commitment to ensuring every community has greater access to healthy food and the opportunity to thrive.

From the Mississippi Delta to Chicago, we're proud to carry forward that vision by strengthening local food systems, supporting farmers, and creating healthier communities for all.❤️

Tyler Yarbrough represented Partnership for a Healthier America at the 2nd Annual NAACP Health Summit in Chicago, where he joined a panel exploring equitable food systems and the untapped economic potential within communities.

During the discussion, Tyler highlighted the work happening across the Mississippi Delta and shared images from SOIL, Justin Hardiman's powerful photography project that captures the brilliance, resilience, and beauty of Delta farmers.

Together, the conversation reinforced an important truth: when we invest in local food systems, we strengthen communities, create economic opportunity, and honor the people who make it all possible.💪🏾

Exactly 139 years ago, the undeveloped swamp land was founded by formerly enslaved men looking for a place black Mississippians could own land and build wealth. Mound Bayou was born, housing Black-owned and operated businesses, banks, hospitals, schools and more. It became a symbol of pride, hope, community and possibility.

To celebrate 139 years of its founding, our Good Food at Home partners, Bolivar County Long Term Disaster Recovery Committee, highlighted their food distribution in the city’s week-long celebration. The boxes were considered “blessing boxes”, and many of the recipients were thankful to be receiving the fresh local produce boxes.

Always a good reminder that good food not only powers good health, but happy, full hearts.

Follow along with Asia Anderson, a participant in the 2026 Delta Scholar Program, as she visits the Downtown Clarksdale Farmers Market. The farmers market is open Thursday, 5 pm-7 pm at 145 Delta Ave, Clarksdale right at Collective Seed & Supply Co.

The last day for this season is August 6th! So come on out tomorrow and next week for your local farm fresh and community goods.
