INTERSTATE CLOSURE ALERT - 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026

The northbound lanes of I-55 from Batesville (Exit 243) to Sardis (Exit 252) are now OPEN as crews continue to work through the area.

The northbound lanes of I-55 from Sardis (Exit 252) to Como (Exit 257) AND all lanes of I-22/U.S. 78 from Red Banks (Exit 21) to the Tennessee State Line remain CLOSED to allow MDOT crews access to work on ice removal efforts.

The public should COMPLETELY avoid I-55 and I-22/U.S. 78 in these areas, and we are still encouraging emergency travel only in affected areas.

At this time of year, deer tend to have family gatherings like we do... Their get-togethers just often happen along the highway or in the middle of the road. 😒

Unless you want to crash (literally) their reunion frolics, be sure to keep these tips in mind to avoid a deer collision:
📵 Focus on the road & ditch distractions
🐢 Slow down to give yourself more reaction time
🌒 Watch for deer between dusk & dawn when they're most active
🦌 Remain calm & brake firmly—never veer—for deer in the road
🚘 Use your high beams when safe to see better
👀 Look for deer eye reflections on roadsides to forewarn you
