The Irving Professional Fire Fighters Association has proudly endorsed Congresswoman Julie Johnson for TX Congressional District 33.

We have greatly valued the opportunity to work with Congresswoman Johnson over the years. From her service in the Texas House and the US House of Representatives, she has consistently been a trusted resource and advocate for firefighters.

As part of his “Marc Makes a Difference” initiative, Congressman Marc Veasey stopped by Central Fire Station to spend time with Irving firefighters and, more importantly, roll up his sleeves and help clean the station.

Our crews clean every fire station in the city every day, but Tuesdays are dedicated to a more detailed deep cleaning. Congressman Veasey joined the Central crew on Tuesday and assisted with their station duties firsthand.

We appreciate Congressman Veasey taking the time to visit with our firefighters, learn more about the work they do every day, and help out around the firehouse.

🚒 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫?

We often get asked: “Why do fire engines and trucks need 4 firefighters?”

Right now, most Irving Fire Dept engines and trucks operate with a minimum staffing of 𝟑 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬. However, national standards—like NFPA 1710—recommend 𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝟒 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬 for a reason.

This isn’t about convenience—it’s about 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲, 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 for both firefighters and the community we serve.

𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝟒-𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧:
• Perform critical fireground tasks simultaneously instead of sequentially
• Get water on the fire faster
• Conduct search & rescue operations sooner
• Improve firefighter safety with proper crew integrity & accountability
• Provide a more effective response during medical emergencies, rescues, & major incidents

With only 3 firefighters, those same tasks take longer—and in emergencies, 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫.

For over 𝟑𝟎 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬, the Irving Professional Fire Fighters Association has been fighting for 4-person staffing because we know it makes a difference on emergency scenes. In fact, securing a pathway to 4-person staffing was the 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐞 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞 and one of the primary reasons we pushed so hard for a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

As part of that contract, the City agreed to begin 𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝟒-𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬—a major step forward for both firefighter safety and the level of service provided to the citizens of Irving.

Yesterday, IFD Boat 1 responded to a report of a person in the Trinity River. Station 1’s Swift Water Rescue Team and Station 6’s Technical Rescue Team quickly arrived on scene and successfully rescued the individual.

Outstanding work by both teams—this is professionalism and preparedness in action.

This incident is exactly why the Irving Professional Fire Fighters Association continues to advocate for proper staffing, training, and equipment. When elected and appointed officials look to cut costs, we must ensure our firefighters have the resources they need to safely and effectively serve our community.

May 2-3, 2026, has been declared National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.

The proclamation gives special recognition to firefighters who lost their lives over the past year and honors their sacrifice, courage and service to their communities. It also recognizes firefighters for answering emergency calls nationwide and risking their lives to protect people, homes and communities during fires, disasters and other emergencies.

The Executive Board of Local 2073 was proud to host IFD’s newest firefighters at our Union Hall to discuss the importance of our organization and the role of organized labor at the local, state, and national levels.

Representing our members is both an honor and a responsibility—and one we take seriously. We remain committed to advocating for, protecting, and serving every firefighter with integrity and pride.

We are proud to welcome five new members into the brotherhood and sisterhood. They now join 415 members of the Irving Professional Fire Fighters Association, alongside more than 20,000 members of the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters and over 360,000 members of the International Association of Fire Fighters.
