🏠 What does it really take to prevent family homelessness before it begins?

Family homelessness doesn’t always look the way we expect. Families may be staying temporarily with loved ones, living in vehicles, or moving from place to place while rising costs and unexpected challenges put stable housing increasingly out of reach.

Join Orange County United Way’s Community Chat on Friday, August 28, from 12:00–12:30 p.m. via Zoom for an important conversation about preventing family homelessness and helping families achieve lasting stability.

We’re proud to have LaVal Brewer, President & CEO of South County Outreach, participate in this timely discussion alongside Nichole Gideon, a member of the Orange County Continuum of Care Board and Lived Experience Advisory Committee.

Together, they’ll explore the factors that can push families toward homelessness, the support systems that can intervene before a crisis escalates, and why listening to people with lived experience is essential to creating more effective solutions.

Thank you to LAist for shining a light on the growing challenge of food insecurity in Orange County and including South County Outreach in this important conversation.

According to new data from Feeding America, 1 in 6 children in Orange County experienced food insecurity in 2024, underscoring the increasing pressure families in our community are facing.
