Iowa City is getting read to welcome nearly 300 museum professionals from across the country for the 2026 Association of Academic Museums and Galleries (AAMG) Conference.

With the University of Iowa’s Galleries, Libraries, Museums, and Archives (GLAM) serving as hosts this year, the Iowa City Downtown District is delighted to welcome AAMG. Today, we’re taking over the insta stories!

Many student visitors to the Main Library Gallery hear about the behind-the-scenes efforts that go into each exhibition. Here are a few recent photos of our team members at work! As museum and library professionals, we know creating exhibits takes a village.

Stop by during your trip to Iowa City to see the results of their collaboration on the spring 2026 exhibit.

👩‍🎨: Lauren, graphic designer, weeding a vinyl wallpaper pattern she illustrated.

🌟: Bill, preparator and conservation technician, assembling a portable wall. (Bill is our mountmaker extraordinaire!)

📐: Sara, exhibition coordinator, installing mounted photographs.

📜: Giselle, university conservator, transporting materials for display.

🦆: Lindsay, lead public services librarian for , ensuring proper materials access for our upcoming fall exhibit.

🎼: José, Libraries IT director, assembling an audio interactive he designed with colleagues.

📚: Cecil, exhibition and engagement student lead, choosing pop-up display materials for an outreach event.
