If you used drugs during your pregnancy, the fear of what happens at the hospital is real. You deserve honest answers.
Hospitals routinely conduct drug testing after delivery. It is standard hospital procedure, and it is something the medical team is trained to act on. If a test comes back positive, the social worker on staff is typically required to contact child protective services.
That can feel terrifying. But it does not mean you are out of options.

The moments after delivery can be some of the most overwhelming of your life. Here is what to expect.

After giving birth, every mother faces one of the most emotional decisions of her life. Are you ready to parent your child? Are there family members who are in a position to provide the life you want for your baby? Or are you considering an adoption plan? There is no wrong answer, and there is no rush.

A social worker from the hospital will typically come in to talk with you. They will ask questions and help you think through what matters most to you and what is in the best interest of your child. That conversation is there to support you, not to pressure you.

What is most important is that this decision is yours. It should not be shaped by family, friends, or anyone else in your life. You know your situation. You know your child. And you have the right to make this decision for yourself.

Over 20 years ago, these kids all came from the same orphanage in Russia, where we helped them find their forever families. Getting to share a meal with them and hear about their lives now brought us more joy than we can even describe. 💗
