What a night! ๐ŸŒโœจ

Our CEO Bruce Garrison was honored to attend The International Center's 2026 International Citizen of the Year celebration, recognizing Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Owner and CEO of the Indianapolis Colts.

Carlie is a reminder of what women's leadership looks like at the very top, and of how much good happens when leaders invest in their community. ๐Ÿ’™

We were also proud to see two incredible women among this year's Global Impression Award finalists: Diana Marzinger (Belisimoda Academy) and Dr. Jennifer Baezinger (IU Center for Global Health). ๐Ÿ‘

And a big shout-out to the winner Ally Aba Bueba (Congo American Bridge), our former Director of Strategic Partnerships. Ally, we're so proud of you!

Every connection made on nights like this helps us better serve immigrant and refugee families here in Indiana. Want to be part of this work? Learn more at patchworkglobal.org ๐Ÿงก

Who you are outside of the counseling room is still important inside of it.โ€

At Patchwork Global, we believe stability and belonging include caring for our mental health. Yet for many families, counseling feels unfamiliar, or it isnโ€™t something talked about at home.

Weโ€™re grateful to Mae Harvey for this thoughtful guest post on what to expect when you take that first step. You donโ€™t need the perfect words, and you donโ€™t need to be in crisis. You can start with a conversation.

Hello again, friends ๐Ÿ’›

Some of you have walked with us for years. Some of you are meeting us for the first time. Either way, we're glad you're here.

After several months of reflection and rebuilding, we're back with a new name and a clearer focus: Patchwork Global.

Our mission hasn't changed at its heart: empowering and connecting communities by building networks of people, businesses, and organizations who welcome newcomers and people who have been forcibly displaced.

What has changed is how we do it. We learned that families thrive when the whole community is involved, so we're focusing on building those connections across Indiana.

Did you know? More than 432,000 Indiana residents were born outside the U.S. Many of them are already your coworkers, your neighbors, and the families sitting next to you at church on Sunday.

Take a look at the photos to learn more about who we are now. ๐Ÿ“ธ

Want to be part of it? Share this post so your friends can meet the new Patchwork Global. That's the simplest, most powerful way to help us today.

Sometimes being a good neighbor means a 3-hour drive.

Last week, a group of our volunteers drove a family to the Consulado General de Honduras en Chicago so they could complete an important paperwork appointment. They handled the driving, the waiting, the snacks for the kids, and the long day in between.

This is Neighbor for Neighbor: everyday people from our communities walking alongside newcomer families through the practical, sometimes overwhelming steps of building a life here.

Trips like this involves high expenses for gas, meals, tolls and paperwork fees. Families shouldn't have to choose between essential paperwork and groceries.

๐Ÿš— Want to be a neighbor? Join us!

Thank you to the amazing group of volunteers for showing up. ๐Ÿ™

A few days ago, Patchwork Global joined a Spark and Go class hosted by Latinas Welding Guild to discuss โ€œAdvocacy You Can Use.โ€

The class created space for members of the Hispanic community to learn about their rights and how to exercise them. These conversations are most meaningful when they recognize that culture and lived experience can shape how people understand their rights, interact with institutions, and feel about speaking up.

For someone who has moved from another country, knowing where to turn when a workplace issue arises can be challenging. In Mexico, labor rights are protected through federal institutions, conciliation processes, and labor courts. In the United States, responsibilities are more distributed: different agencies handle issues such as wages and hours, discrimination, and the right to organize, while rules may also vary across federal, state, and local levels.

Accessible, culturally responsive information can help make these systems easier to understand and navigate.

Thank you to Latinas Welding Guild for welcoming us and creating opportunities to learn, connect, and strengthen advocacy in our community.

Are we at Disneyland?

That's what a little boy asked when his family landed at the Indianapolis airport. His parents had lived in a refugee camp in Uganda for ten years. He and his two siblings had never known anything else.

Our CEO Bruce Garrison shared this moment last week with leaders from around the world at a session convened by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, which Patchwork Global co-hosted.

The airport welcome is just the beginning. Our sponsors and volunteers showed up for every family, sometimes four arrivals in one night. But the hardest walls come later: a school without an interpreter, a clinic that isn't taking new patients, an employer who doesn't know how to read experience from another country.

That's why we're bringing together schools, hospitals, employers, faith communities and city leaders across Indiana, so every family can find stability, opportunity and belonging.

Celebrating 25 years of connection, leadership, and impact! ๐ŸŽ‰

Patchwork Global CEO Bruce Garrison was honored to attend the Indiana Latino Instituteโ€™s 25th anniversary celebration. This milestone recognizes the lasting contributions of the Institute and the strength, leadership, and influence of Indianaโ€™s Hispanic and Latino community.

At Patchwork Global, we believe thriving communities are built through connection and collaboration. Weโ€™re grateful for the opportunity to celebrate alongside organizations and community leaders working toward a more welcoming and inclusive Indiana.

Congratulations to the Indiana Latino Institute on 25 yearsโ€”and on the important work still ahead!

What does it mean to build a patchwork?

In our second blog post, Bruce Garrison reflects on the story behind the name Patchwork Globalโ€”and the belief that a strong, inclusive society does not ask people to leave their identities behind. Instead, it brings people together while honoring the distinct experiences, cultures, and perspectives each person contributes.
