Jesus Created and Served the First Cultivated Flesh

Cultivated flesh (also known as cell-based or lab-grown meat) is authentic animal meat produced by cultivating animal cells directly in a laboratory or manufacturing facility, eliminating the need to raise and slaughter livestock. Jesus was the pioneer of cultivated meat, as he fed multiplied fish meat to the five thousand (Matt 14:13–21; Mark 6:30–44; Luke 9:10–17; John 6:1–15) and the four thousand (Matt 15:32–39; Mark 8:1–10) without causing any harm to the source animal. However, there is much evidence that the fish in the feedings of the five thousand and the four thousand are later additions and therefore can be considered uninspired and thus, unauthoritative. (1) Regardless, if the fish were not later additions, Jesus created and served the first cultivated flesh. Jesus’ implicit support of cultivated flesh is why our ministry promotes permissible (Lev 11:1–47; Deut 14:3–21) cultivated meat. (2)

The New Covenant Interpretation Method

With the arrival of the new covenant comes a new interpretation method of the Bible. Second Corinthians 3:5–6 states, ‘Our qualification comes from God. He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.’ There is a difference between the ‘spirit’ and the ‘letter’ of the law. (1) Since the new covenant began, God encourages us to interpret passages using ‘the spirit of the law,’ meaning that we should apply biblical passages beyond to whom they were written. For instance, many verses in the Bible were written with humans exclusively in mind (Matt 7:12; Luke 6:31). However, using The New Covenant Interpretation Method, our ministry takes passages about treating humans justly (like Matt 7:12 and Luke 6:31) and applies them to animals.

Biblical Sabbath Laws Suggest Intrinsic Equality Between Humans and Animals

Equivalent treatment implies equality between individuals. The Bible suggests an intrinsic equality between humans and animals through a few instances of Sabbath laws that apply to both. For example, in Luke 14:5 and Matthew 12:11–12, Jesus implies that a human or an animal who happens to fall into a well on the Sabbath should be lifted out. Similarly, Christ implied in Luke 13:15–16 that on the Sabbath, humans and animals should be freed from their bo***ge. Additionally, Sabbath rest must be given to both humans and animals (Exod 20:8–11; Deut 5:12–14). The Bible implies intrinsic equality between humans and animals through these Sabbath laws.

The Anti-Oppression Principle

The Lord gives deliverance (Ps 119:134), safety (Isa 38:14), shelter (Ps 9:9), and justice (10:17–18, 103:6, 146:7) to the oppressed. Fittingly, the Egyptians oppressed his people, so God sent Moses to bring them out of Egypt (Exod 3:9–12). In Luke 4:18, Jesus quoted Isa 61:1 to declare liberty for the oppressed. The Bible consistently associates oppression with negative attributes (Deut 26:7; 1 Sam 12:3, Ps 42:9, 43:2, 55:3, 56:1, 72:14, 107:39; Ecc 5:8, 7:7; Isa 30:12, 59:13; Jer 22:3, 22:17; Ezek 22:29; Amos 4:1; Zeph 3:1; James 2:6). Oppressing others insults God (Prov 14:31) who asks for correction (Isa 1:17). Zechariah 7:9–10 condemns oppressing the poor (Prov 22:16), foreigners, widows, and orphans (Mal 3:4–5). Those who make oppressive laws and deny justice to the oppressed are condemned (Isa 10:1–2), including towns (Jer 6:6). Oppression could be a punishment from God (Amos 6:14). However, he promised no more for his people (Zech 9:8). The Bible thoroughly communicates God’s repugnance toward oppression. ‘The Anti-Oppression Principle’ recognizes this abhorrence and demands that oppressive industries/activities be ended. Many of the above verses exclusively refer to the oppression of humans. However, utilizing The New Covenant Interpretation Method (1) and The Unity of Creation Principle, (2) our ministry applies these passages to animals. Therefore, ‘The Anti-Oppression Principle’ recognizes God’s repugnance toward industries/activities that oppress animals and his desire for them to stop. Thus, based on this principle, our ministry opposes the exploitation of animals for food, fashion, and experimentation. (3)

The Pro-Peace Principle

Peace is associated with the Lord’s character (Rom 15:33, 16:20; 1 Cor 14:33; Phil 4:9; 1 Thess 5:23; 2 Thess 3:16; Heb 13:20) and it comes from his actions (Lev 26:6; Num 6:26; Ps 4:8, 29:11, 85:8; Prov 16:7; Isa 26:12; Luke 2:14; Rom 1:7). One of the Holy Spirit’s fruits is peace (Gal 5:22). Elsewhere, the Bible links peace with positive attributes (Ps 37:37, 85:10; Prov 12:20; Isa 52:7, 54:10, 55:12; Rom 8:6, 14:17, 15:13; Heb 12:11; James 3:17–18; 1 Pet 1:2; Jude 1:2) and is something Christians should obtain (Ps 34:14; Mark 9:50; Rom 12:18, 14:19; Eph 4:3 NLT; Phil 4:7 NLT; Col 3:15; 2 Tim 2:22; Heb 12:14; 1 Pet 3:11) from God (Job 22:21; Isa 26:3; Acts 9:31) and by following the Bible (Ps 119:165; Prov 3:1–2; Isa 54:13). Jesus is the “Prince of Peace” (Isa 9:6), and he gave his followers peace (Isa 53:5, 66:12; Mark 5:34; Luke 1:78–79, 7:50; John 14:27, 16:33, 20:19; Acts 10:36; Rom 5:1; 1 Cor 1:3; 2 Cor 1:2; Gal 1:3; Eph 2:13–17; Col 1:20). Fittingly, Christ praised peacemakers (Matt 5:9). Ultimately, peace will forever reign on the New Earth (Isa 32:17–18). (1) Therefore, the Bible views peace as theologically righteous. “The Pro-Peace Principle” recognizes that God views peace as virtuous and desirable and that anything that brings it should be seen as honorable and worth pursuing. Our ministry utilizes “The Pro-Peace Principle” to promote alternatives to the exploitation of animals in entertainment, fashion, experimentation, and food. (2)

The New Earth Now Principle, Part 2

‘The New Earth Now Principle’ involves referring to the New Earth to justify Christian behavior in the present. Several biblical figures such as Jesus, Paul, Sosthenes, Timothy, Silas, and Peter referred to the New Earth to justify Christians (and others) behaving a certain way now (Matt 6:10, 19:10–12; Acts 17:30–33; Rom 13:11–14, 15:1–4; 1 Cor 9:24–27, 15:20–58; 2 Cor 4:8–18, 5:8–10, 6:14–7:1; Gal 5:1–26, 6:7–10; Phil 1:6, 2:12–18; Col 1:1–14, 1:21–23, 3:1–9; 1 Thess 5:1–11; 2 Thess 2:13–17; 1 Tim 4:6–10, 6:11–19; 2 Tim 2:3–12, 4:6–8; Titus 2:11–15; Heb 10:23–25; 1 Pet 5:1–4, 5:5–10; 2 Pet 3:10–14). Therefore, these biblical figures utilized ‘The New Earth Now Principle’ to instruct Christians (and others) on how to behave in the present. Similarly, our ministry utilizes ‘The New Earth Now Principle’ to oppose industries/activities that exploit animals for entertainment, fashion, experimentation, and food. (1) Likewise, our ministry utilizes ‘The New Earth Now Principle’ to promote alternatives to the exploitation of animals in entertainment, fashion, experimentation, and food. (2) ‘The New Earth Now Principle’ is about aligning our actions toward animals with how the New Earth will function.
