We are incredibly grateful to the Buchanan County Community Foundation for awarding us a grant to help launch the Independence Rotary Reads initiative! 📚

Through this program, PK4 students in Independence will receive a new book each month throughout the school year, helping build a love of reading while supporting early literacy development.

This initiative directly aligns with one of Rotary’s areas of focus: improving access to basic education and helping close the literacy gap. We are excited to partner with our community to make a meaningful impact and can’t wait to kick off this program in September!

We would also like to thank our neighboring Oelwein Rotary Club for inspiring us with their own reading program that we’re now adopting in Independence.

Indee RAGBRAI could really use your help! Consider signing up for a volunteer shift at the link below!

🚴 Volunteers spots are filling … BUT … we still have many spots to fill for Independence RAGBRAI! 🇺🇸

It takes an entire community to welcome thousands of RAGBRAI riders and visitors, and we'd love to have you on the team!

We need volunteers to help before, during, and after Independence's overnight stop. Volunteer opportunities include:

🧹 Saturday, July 18 – Community Beautification Day
🔧 Wednesday, July 22 – Event Set-Up
🚴 Thursday, July 23 – RAGBRAI Overnight Event
🧽 Friday, July 24 – Event Clean-Up

Whether you can give a few hours or a full day, your time and talents will help create an unforgettable experience for more than 20,000 riders, support crews, and visitors.

This is a great opportunity to show off the hospitality and community spirit that make Independence such a special place.

Today we had a visit from our District Governor Jeff Halverson from the Waterloo club. He gave us some program updates from our district and project happening in the area.

On Tuesday, we were pleased to welcome Erin Gerlich, Executive Director of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, as our special guest. She provided an informative overview of the IGHSAU, along with updates and other valuable information. We appreciate her traveling to Independence to join us.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 🌳♻️

Rotarians took a shovel to the ground today, planting a tree next to the Rotary Shelter in Teacher’s Park in honor of Earth Day and in memory of the Rotarians who are no longer with us. Their impact, support, and contributions are truly meaningful and will never be forgotten.

We hope you take a moment to enjoy this beautiful day, do something kind for the earth, and let the people you have the opportunity to work with know just how appreciated they are. 🌎🌱
