👟 Soles4Souls Update – Look What YOU Made Happen! 👟

We’ve now collected 4,432 pairs of shoes! 🙌

In just the last week, Mike delivered 527 pairs to Mt. Vernon! A big shoutout to West Middle School for their amazing effort—200 pairs collected through their shoe drive!

The rest? From YOU—through our drop boxes and garage sale donations. And with garage sale season still going, we know there’s more to come!

💥 Our impact so far:
✔️ 5,540 pounds kept out of landfills
✔️ $40,109.60 in economic opportunity created
✔️ Enough support to help 4 families for a full year with food, housing, and education

🎯 Our goal: 10,000 pairs by August
👟 The reward: FREE shoes for kids in the Independence school system

Help us get there—keep spreading the word! Friends, neighbors, church, coworkers—even strangers! Every pair counts.

Iowa Lions KidSight provides FREE vision screenings for children in our schools and daycare centers. Early detection makes a huge difference in a child’s ability to learn and succeed. Updated equipment helps us continue serving local kids quickly and accurately.

💜💚 Join us for an evening of Hope & Healing. The Independence Lions Club invites you to a Community Su***de Awareness Event on October 9th at 6:00 PM at the Independence Library Community Room. Together, we can spread awareness, support one another, and find strength in community. 💜💚

We're incredibly thankful for our amazing volunteers and the unwavering support from Lions Clubs who made our Iowa State Fair vision screenings another tremendous success!
Thanks to their dedication, we were able to provide vision screenings to 231 children and ensure early detection of potential vision impairments. Thank you to all who participated, helping us make a real difference in our community.

🌟 **Soles4Souls Shoe Drive Update!** 🌟

With our latest shipment, we’ve now collected **476.5 pairs of shoes**! 🎉
A huge shout-out to **Cy and Charlie’s** for contributing over **200 pairs** so far—what an amazing boost! 👏 And we’re excited to announce that **West Elementary** has joined in to collect shoes too!

👟 **Let’s keep the momentum going—every pair makes a difference!** Collect from friends, neighbors, coworkers, and every resource possible. Together, we’re making incredible progress toward our goal of 10,000 pairs!

✨ **Our Impact So Far:**

* ♻️ **595.63 pounds** kept out of local landfills—reducing waste and extending the life of unwanted shoes and clothing.

* 🌍 Donations can create **\$4,312.33 of economic opportunity** for families and communities worldwide through Soles4Souls’ 4Opportunity and 4Relief programs—helping families afford necessities, education, and opportunities for a better future.

* ❤️ In places like **Haiti and Honduras**, these donations can provide consistent, quality food, housing, and education for a family for 5 months.

♻️ It’s time for the Independence Lions Annual Scrap Metal Drive! ♻️
📅 October 11–18
📍 Dumpsters at Signs and More parking lot
✅ Appliances accepted (please remove doors from refrigerators & freezers)
❌ Electronics, plastics, and wood are not accepted
🚛 Free Pick-Up Service!
Available in the Independence area Oct. 11 & 18, 9 a.m.–noon
📞 Call 319-261-0509 after Oct. 1 to schedule
💛 All proceeds support local, state, and international Lions humanitarian projects!
The Lions also collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids year-round. Drop-off locations: BCHC, Heritage Drug, Dr. Zimmerman’s office, Advanced Family Eye Care, and the Independence Public Library.
