I want to thank everyone who came to Lamont today to support our businesses and organizations and attend our volunteer appreciation ceremony to thank our incredible volunteers. We had a great crowd! I want to thank Common Grounds for hosting the event and having rolls and drinks and Rae McTaggart for being our photographer for the event.

Pictured below are our incredible volunteers who have dedicated countless hours to making our community a better place, Mark Adams, Cathy Adams, JoAnn Crow, Terry Crow, John Richmond, Jane Richmond, Karen Kremer, Paula Harvey, Kay Hoffman, and Steve Berger accepting the award for the Lamont Mobile Food pantry. These individuals and the mobile food pantry have dedicated many years and done so much to make our community a better place. Thank you!

We have many incredible volunteers in our community who have done an incredible amount to make our community a better place. We also have a large amount of support from our community to make this an annual event, so annual event it is! Be thinking of nominations for 2027!

Thank you everyone for making Lamont a great place!

๐ŸŒŸ National Volunteer Month Spotlight ๐ŸŒŸ

Helping seniors stay connected, supported, and engaged is at the heart of what our volunteers do - and weโ€™re proud to recognize those who make it happen every day!

Today, weโ€™re excited to highlight Sharla Sherrets, a valued volunteer at the Buchanan County Senior Center in Independence for over 12 years. ๐Ÿ’™

Before becoming a volunteer, Sharla worked as a cook at the center, and her commitment never slowed down. Today, she plays a vital role in keeping things running smoothly. From managing the front desk, greeting seniors, answering phones, and tracking meal participation, to running the kitchen by prepping, serving, and cleaning up, Sharla truly does it all.

She also brings fun and connection to the center by calling bingo, and she stays actively involved as a member of the Council on Aging, where she attends meetings and supports activities and fundraisers.

Sharlaโ€™s dedication, energy, and care make a lasting difference for so many. We are incredibly grateful for all that she does! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’™ Shoutout to the heart of our community โ€” our volunteers! ๐Ÿ’™
The Independence Area Food Pantry -IOWA is powered by some truly amazing people. Day in and day out, neighbors show up for neighbors โ€” packing boxes, sorting food, lending smiles, and making sure no one feels alone.
This is what community looks like: coming together, serving with compassion, and lifting each other up. We are so grateful for every volunteer who gives their time and heart to make a difference. You all are AWESOME!!
