After our very much unwanted week off, we're back for another week of games and wanted to welcome everyone back with another Sportsmanship Spotlight post!
Up first is one of our favorite umpires, Red Harwell, who out there for just one reason - to make this game better for the kids. Red is not only an excellent umpire who puts her all into getting the call right, but she also goes out of her way to explain and coach players during games. If you watch a game when Red is behind the plate, you'll see her constantly helping position batters, tie shoes and provide encouragement when a player makes a mistake. Red is a huge asset to our league and we are extremely lucky to have her! Thanks for everything you do, Red!
Our next group of nominees are all in our 10U Softball Division. Blakely from the Pink Sox had the misfortune of breaking her wrist before she even got a chance to play her first 10U game but that didn't stop her from coming out to every single one of team's games where she not only cheered on her Pink Sox teammates, but made sure they all had fresh cooling towels, water and anything else they might need. We can't imagine a better way to turn a disappointing injury into something positive. Blakely will be back in action this week and we can't wait to see her on the field instead of in the dugout today! While Blakely was out of commission, her team had to rely on players from other teams to sub for her and despite a hot start to the season, filled with double headers, there was no shortage of players willing to step up and help another team out! Some of these incredible players even subbed after playing a double header for their own team and they all did so with a smile on their face. This kind of willingness to help out other teams and players is the epitome of sportsmanship so we wanted to be sure to send a big shoutout to Fingleigh from the Sandlot Sisters, Evelyn from the Valkyries, Brinleigh from the Lady Blue Jays and Sadie from the 8U Pink Sox. Thank you for stepping up - the Pink Sox thoroughly enjoyed playing with you and are so grateful for your help!
Our last nominee is 4U Lil Rascals Assistant Coach, Kevin Mead. Coaching 3 and 4 year-olds can be always challenging (some have described it as being akin to "herding wet cats") but Coach Kevin continues to show patience, care, and kindness, even on the tough days. His dedication to encouraging and supporting every player is evident to everyone around and the way he approaches coaching our youngest TCBSA players is a great example of sportsmanship!
