The campfires are extinguished. Camp is closed. But the impact of Wood Badge 662-26-2 is only beginning.
Thirty-six participants came to Philmont ready to learn, grow, and serve. They leave with 180 ticket goals — goals that will reach every level of Scouting, from units to districts, councils, and beyond. Goals that will strengthen programs, develop leaders, motivate others, and inspire change.
Throughout the week, staff and participants navigated weather, uncertainty, and change. Plans shifted, challenges came, and yet this course never lost sight of its purpose. Together, we adapted, persevered, and fully experienced the Wood Badge program.
What began as dens on Monday became something much more by Friday.
As our participants departed Gilwell Field and made the hike to the buses at the Kit Carson Museum, they did so not simply as members of dens and patrols, but as lifelong friends and family — connected by shared experiences, laughter, challenges, growth, and a commitment to make Scouting better.
At Philmont, we say, “Change Lives.”
Through those 180 ticket goals, lives will be changed. Scouts will be inspired. Leaders will be strengthened. Units and programs will grow.
But perhaps one of the greatest lessons of this week is that while we came prepared to change the lives of others, each of us leaves Philmont changed as well.
To every participant: thank you for saying yes to this journey and for committing yourself to what comes next.
To every staff member: thank you for your heart, your flexibility, your leadership, and your service.
To our Senior Patrol Leader, Rebecca: thank you for leading Troop 1 with dedication and purpose.
And to our Scoutmaster and Course Director, Corey Ferguson: thank you for your vision, leadership, and commitment to creating an experience none of us will soon forget.
The fires may be extinguished, and camp may be closed, but the work has just begun.
Go change lives.
